Back to Webjam Blog Written on 05-Sep-2008 by webjamWebjam has launched a new community feature - the Webjam channels.
A channel is a hub where Webjammers who share a specific interest can get to know each other, share their webjams, content, information, recommendations and much more. We encourage you to view and explore the first four channels:
the Arts channel
the Charity channel
the Family Life channel
and the Football channel
There will be more channels to come in the future.
There are several benefits of being a member of a channel. By becoming a member you can:
Channels are unique in that a you can become a member and also connect your webjam to the channel. When requesting to join you simply choose which webjam you would like to affiliate to the channel. This will allow your webjam's activities to be displayed on the channel. A webjam can be connected to one or more channels, for example, if your webjam is about a charity that helps young artists, you may want to connect it to the Charity and the Arts channels. Alternatively, you can become a member of a channel without submitting a webjam.
Joining a channel is simple:
A few more points:
Channels are managed exactly like webjams. They have an editor and can be private, members only or public. With some channels you may need to ‘request to join’, or you may be allowed to join immediately, depending on the settings of the channel.
Each channel offers a few templates (webjams that have been prepared especially for these channels and include pages, modules and a style that we think are relevant). If you replicate one of these webjams, you will automatically become a member of the channel.
The editor(s) of these first four channels are members of the Webjam team. Webjam is hoping in the future to create/facilitate many more channels, so if you run an active webjam community that you would like to become a channel then we will consider requests sent using the 'Contact Webjam' link (found in the footer).
Other changes you may notice:
In your settings tab, instead of the (former) category you have a new tab – ‘Channel’ that lists the channel your webjam is affiliated to.
In the My memberships lightbox you now have two mini tabs: Webjams and Channels. The Channels tab lists all the channels you are a member of.
In the Activity lightbox you now have an option to view the activity of your friends and webjams you are a member of (this remains as it was before) or the activity of a specific channel you are a member of.
We hope you come check out the channels and join the ones that interest you. Please visit Tips channel post for more how-to information.

What should I do to transform Brand 3.0 in a channel?... The Brand 3.0 Hub!....
How can you help/support me to do that (if plausible)?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers!

I like the idea. I would like a Channel for kayaking that could include Clubs, Vendors, Services, etc. My website is mostly for Tour Kayaking, not White Water, yet we have similar needs and events. Our site is devoted to East Central Florida but we also kayak around the country. I list launch sites on my site and if there were other webjam sites in other parts of the country that listed their launch sites it would be great for us traveling kayakers. Thanks, Roland, rph1949@aol.com

i don't understand any of this.... whats a "URL" ?
written on 05-Nov-2008
Christopher Schaefer [http://www.citypointnewhavenconnecticut.net] says:
Don't feel bad. I'm quite new to all of this myself. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but URL refers to a website's address, e.g. http://www.webjam.com or http://www.citypointnewhavenconnecticut.net You can search the term URL on Google to find out exactly what the technical term is of which URL is an abbreviation. Once you understand this, you can, if you wish, take the next step and purchase your own unique "domain name" to replace the more generic www/webjam.com/yoursite. Google "domain names" to find companies that sell the rights to a name which you create. They will give you the special code to use, with Webjam's help, to direct traffic to your site via the domain name you have created. Can you imagine--I didn't even have email a year ago!
