General Advice

We have a drop-in General Advice Service, held each Monday, Wednesday, and Friday 10am-1pm.  This service offers confidential advice on welfare benefits, employment, debt, housing, and consumer issues.  The service is available to all residents of Lambeth.

There is also a free legal advice service; Waterloo Legal Advice Service (WLAS) every Thursday evening between 6.30 - 8pm.  

WAC staff and volunteers will answer general queries from Lambeth residents.

What advice do we give?

Our General Advice Service is available to Lambeth residents at the above hours. We can offer help and advice on:

WELFARE BENEFITS
Means tested local authority benefits, earnings related, incapacity, statutory sick pay, contributory based job seekers allowance, retirement pensions. Disability Living allowance or attendance allowance, preparing for appeals. Community Care grants. Budgeting loans. Funeral payments. Council tax and Housing Benefits.

DEBT
Rent arrears/ possession. Council Tax. Utility debts, gas, electricity, water, other priority debt.

HOUSING
Private and public sector, neighbourhood disputes, homelessness and rehousing, security of tenure status in public/ housing associations.

EMPLOYMENT
Wrongful dismissal, unfair dismissal, constructive unfair dismissal, redundancy, discrimination, rights in work, maternity rights, deductions from wages, Trade Unions, Sick Pay, Health and Safety, National minimum wage.

CONSUMER/ GENERAL
Defective goods and services, home improvements, holidays, domestic appliances, furniture, furnishings and clothing.

COMMUNITY CARE
Representation or case work to prepare clients for assessment. NHS and Community Care Act 1990, Carers Recognition and Services Act, 1995. Disabled Persons (Services, Consultation and Representation) Act, 1986.
