We have had just a great weekend. Very productive, let me tell you. Very tiring also, as we had to hike in quite far this time. Okay, okay, we all know that known of us HAS to keep walking farther into the wilderness, but how else are we going to keep finding new signs and goodies?

Also had a very interesting thing happen to us this time. We were definately being followed by something, so we stopped in the middle of a very beautiful clearing and kept the recorder going while we stood absolutely still listening. We weren't sure if it was bi-pedal or quadripedal, but it kept getting closer and closer all the same. Suddenly, my husband grabbed a large limb and hit on a tree 3 times, really loud. Scared the heck outa me! Whatever was creeping up on us stopped suddenly and stands stock still for a few moments, then turns and very quickly goes off in the opposite direction. I turned to my husband and said jokingly that I hope its not going off to get it's father and tell on you. Jokes aside tho, whatever it was, and it was probably a bear, sure took off quick at the sound of that knock. We later found bones, but we dont know from what, but did find coyote prints up in there.

So the moral is: If some animal is following you through the woods, and you want them gone, make like our friends and start making some tree knocks! Seems all the forest creatures already know about this sound.

I'm not sure I want popular opinion on my side -- I've noticed those with the most opinions often have the fewest facts!
