Wednesday, 11 March 2009

HEARTS CAN'T JUBILATE THIS TIMELeaders Hearts of Oak saw their seven point lead whittle down to four after slipping 1-0 defeat to Tema Park in a 2-1 defeat to Tema Youth and champions Kotoko were also pegged back by promoted Eleven Wise at home.

Theophilus Appoh put Tema Youth ahead in the first half before Charles Taylor equalized for the Phobians in the second half.

On the 89th minute Nana Eshun derailed Hearts' efforts with a powerful shot close to the 18-yard box after a perfect inter-change with Yahaya Mohammed.

Abdei Sarfo converted a second-half penalty to hand King Faisal the maximum points over Liberty Professionals at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Real Tamale United hit sticky patch at home in a 2-1 reverse against Heart of Lions at the Tamale Stadium.

Hans Coffie put Lions in the lead after 35 minutes but the host cancelled the lead six minutes later through Alhassan Weah.

Striker Kofi Nti Boakye forced the bitter pills of defeat down the throat of the home fans on the 80th minute mark.

Ex-Black Stars captain C K Akonnor began his career as coach of Sekondi Eleven Wise in a 2-1 win over champions Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium.

Jeff Aryee registered Wise' first goal but Daniel Nii Adjei restored parity for Kotoko before Winfred Dormon netted the vital win in the last ten minutes of the game.

Nana Egyir scored the only goal courtesy a 26th minute penalty.

Wa All Stars recoreded a slim 1-0 win over Berekum Arsenals at the Wa Park.

Tema Youth expel defender

Tema Youth have axed defender Yahaya Mohammed from the team after a bust-up with new coach Attila Sekerlioglu during last sunday's international club against Maranatha in Tema.

The former Nice defender had harsh words for the technical team after being told to warm-up to join the action against the Togolese side at the Tema Park.

The 21-year-old had constant altercations with his former boss Isaac Opeele Boateng claiming he deserved to start league matches and not to warm the bench.

"He claims he's fit for first team action and we disagree and as such we will allow him to exit and go where he can play regularly," A club official told Ghanasoccernet.com

Yahaya's one-year stay at the French Ligue 1 side was hampered by several injuries but has since recovered.

Tema Youth have slipped from second place to sixth-place on the Glo Premier League table after 10 match days.

Youth coach Isaac Opeele Boateng has terminated his contract with the club and joined champions Asante Kotoko.
The former Hasaacas and Kessben FC coach agreed personal terms with the Porcupine Warriors on Monday and expected to start work as an assistant coach to Belgian trainer Maurice Cooreman the next day.

Chairman of the Tema-based club told Ghanasoccernet.com his departure was anticipated:" I must say that over the period his behavoiur has been quiet erratic and when that happens you have to prepare for the worst."

"He's been a very good coach and I must say the position we occupy speaks for itself and what we will try and do with the incoming coach is to maintain the momentum," Winfred Osei-Parma.

"The replacement should not be somebody who's just trying to fill up the vacuum created.

"It will depend on how we handle the process that will be a blow for us."

Tema Youth are now second on the Glo Premier League table, their best start in three seasons.

With Opeele's move, it will mean assistant coach Johnson Smith will be relieved off his post.
