Back to Home Written on 20-Aug-2009 by fridgeOk, so the good news is that we've found a solution to the massive problem.
The bad news is the massive problem, and the time and effort it has and will waste!
So, we're in Fort William; this is our second time here, and it's just as much of a hell-hole this time as it was the last. This is mainly due to the unique climate Fort William has; one that consists entirely of rain. It has in fact rained for the past 6 days! How anyone can live here is beyond both of us, besides the lovely McDonalds that is in town. Right so.. problem. We've walked nearly 100 miles from Inverness to get here, only to find we can't go any further. The West Highland Way, the route we were supposed to be taking, turns out to be impassable for fridges. The A roads around Fort William are the most dangerous in the country, and so we will have no other choice but to go BACK to Inverness, and walk South along a different route from there. We are taking a bus back to Inverness; and will be there in a couple of hours with any luck. Obviously it's not cheating, as we're going back by bus along a route we've already walked. We walked 100 miles just to go to THE worst place in the country, and it was all for very little! So we're a tad annoyed at ourselves.
This set back's going to cost us a lot of time, but in the long run it's for the best and we should be able to actually move a lot faster than on routes such as the disgusting West Highland Way. We'll upload pictures showing exactly what we mean ASAP.
Also, thanks to the brilliant cyclists we met on the A82, who all donated and mentioned us on their website. If you'd like to read about their end-to-end story, go to http://www.4leesle2jog.blogspot.com/
Bye for now!
