Support Michael Phelps For Daring To Use Cannabis In America: The Bong Hit Seen Round The World!

That's what they are calling this craze; the bong hit seen round the world.  I'd been hearing snippets of news for the past few days about one of our Olympic athletes getting caught with drugs.  The way the news broadcasters sounded, it was another huge scandal.  I never dreamed the stink is about a kid taking a bong hit.  Someone  apparently took a picture of Michael Phelps taking a hit off a bong at a college party and the sticking of the scarlet letter begins.  Except that it isn't a Scarlet letter this time, but rather a big green 'M' for Marijuana that is being stuck to his reputation.  Now one of his sponsors is dropping him and the GREEN community gets to decide if we are going to support them in return for their scorn. Kellog's has issued a statement that basically said that the behavior of Mr. Phelps does not line up with the reputation of this family company. Kellog's is letting their contract with Phelps expire at the end of February, 2009.  Phelps was featured on a Wheaties box .  If that was not punishment enough, Phelps has been suspended for 3 months AND Sheriff Leon Lotts, of the county in which Phelps took the bong hit, is now thinking about bringing drug charges against the Olympic medal winner.  The sheriff was heard on CNN remarking that it did not matter who it was, the law had been broken. No one on the CNN report bothered to bring forth any positive information about Cannabis, instead focusing on the poor choice Phelps made to use marijuana. Phelps, who commented to CNN reporter Gary Tuckman about how he felt about the incident, claims that he was never a regular pot user to begin with. When asked by the reporter how he felt about what happened, Phelps responded, "not much.  I have to live with every mistake I've made."  Phelps did not clarify whether the mistake was smoking the pot, or smoking the pot in an unfriendly community, in an unfriendly county, in an unfriendly state. If he were found using Cannabis in Oregon, I doubt that the cops would be discussing whether or not to bring charges against him. In Oklahoma, they would probably be discussing how they could lock him away for life.  When it comes to Cannabis, we are the 'Divided States', not the United States.
What I find so sad about all of this is the cloud of SHAME that has come to rest over Michael Phelps just because the Cannabis plant is still illegal. Consuming Cannabis did not make him any less of a person, nor did it seem to affect his abilities and strengths as a professional athlete. In fact, his use actually lays to rest some of the myths that say Cannabis users can only lay around on the couch in a stupor, too lazy to set goals or be productive in the real world.  I do not understand what the big deal is all about.  We all know that taking a bong hit is a normal part of growing up.  Most adults have tried this at least once in their lives, and no one has died from this experimentation. The worst thing that can happen while smoking a bong is the bong water may get spilled. Everyone knows what a party foul that is. And that's just it. Smoking pot out of a bong is what youngsters do at parties. Serious Cannabis users have more effective means of getting the THC into their system. Gathering around a beautiful piece of glass is a SOCIAL thing, and not something we should be condemning one individual for. If we are going to start doing this then we are going to have to start condemning all the fat people who snarf a whole package of cookies in one night, or the housewives who spend the whole paycheck at Wal-mart. I find it distasteful that we are peering into the private lives of Americans and posting pictures of our activites for all the world to see and pass judgement upon. C'mon, would you want photos of what you did last weekend to be available for the world to see? I am sure you weren't looking for hidden cameras when you were hanging out having a good time with your friends.  Every college kid in America has hit the bong, and except for those who got arrested doing it, there were no lasting effects for these students.  We're talking about Marijuana, not Olympic steroid use, or acts of terrorism against the athletes.  These are the major issues that concern our serious athletes; not a kid who tried a couple of bong hits.  If the kid drank a shot of whiskey, there would be no story.  But Cannabis is the Schedule 1 drug, not the alcohol.  There have been no deaths from Cannabis use. All of the people who mix up a cocktail every night in order to relax should not be judging a man who chooses to relax by grinding and smoking the dried flowers from the Cannabis plant.  Because others say it is evil, does that give the rest of us the right to look down our noses at somebody else?  No one called the police to report the person who ate the box of cookies. They did not lose a lucrative job contract because of their iresponsible behavior.  When we are perfect in our own behaviors, then we can cast that stone at this successful American for his impulses.  Just because the law says it is wrong does not make it so.  We have to live our lives according to higher laws.  Tea was illegal at one time, too, and because of martyrs and education we are now able to enjoy it whenever we choose.

We should be thanking Phelps for being himself and congratulate him for not believing the propaganda concerning Cannabis. What he does in his private time does not change the fact that he is a fabulous swimmer. I'm just sorry that his journey into the world of Cannabis has cost him so much. That was one expensive bong hit.

President Obama, the Cannabis community wants some answers!

obama-smoking1obama_09THE EVE OF CHANGE...
Posted by Trey(Cannabis Community Member) on January 20th, 2009

CHANGE IS COMING....
Or so we are lead to believe.

It is true that we are a country that will at last be free of moronically tyrannical leadership. There is a feel of change everywhere. A sense that the more progressive social movement has finally hit its stride.

Through the last few months we heard numerous times from President Obama that he want to reconnect with the American people.

“My focus is to try to be able to describe in simple, plain terms what are the challenges we face.
“But then also to let people know I have every intention of working with the American people so that we meet those challenges”. - President Obama

I especially enjoy this tidbit:

Obama’s priority when he takes office will be forcing an economic stimulus package, now expected to clock in at a mammoth 850 billion dollars, through Congress in a bid to stave off a full-blown depression.

Aides had hoped that the bill would be ready for his signature as soon as he walks into the Oval Office, but haggling over tax cuts has slowed the process, and the package may not be ready until mid-February.

    Source

The absolute quickest and easiest solution for an immediate economic stimulus impact would be the decriminilization of hemp.

Hemp is erroneously connected to marijuana, though the hemp plant and the marijuana plant are two different species. (You can’t get high from hemp). This misconception prevents the huge benefits that hemp could provide. Some experts estimate that industrial hemp has upwards of 25,000 uses. Hemp could systematically and single-handily revolutionize the agricultural industry and ecology of our nation. With global warming/Climate change now becoming more understood and noticed (thanks to Al Gore), we desperately need alternatives to the way we have been functioning as a society.

There are hundreds of products that can be made from hemp. What about all those fast food containers? Hemp can be used to make those–and they will be biodegradable. What about all those trees we cut down to make lumber and paper? Hemp can do that too–and it’s cheaper and stronger. Hemp can be used to make clothing that looks like linen, feels like flannel, and lasts longer than cotton. Hemp produces four times more pulp per acre than trees do; so not only is it a viable and more economical alternative to wood, it won’t compromise the rain forest, nor the life-saving medical discoveries found in that environment’s flora and fauna.

    Source

There you go Mr. President. I’ve solved the current economic crisis in five minutes. Legalize hemp leads to a “greener” U.S.A, which is a hot topic as well, and also instantly creates a multi-billion dollar agricultural and industrial foundation for the future. C’mon Mr. President. It’s easy. It’s simple. It makes sense. WHY WON”T YOU DO IT??

Oh by the way, if you didn’t click on the link above that leads to the most popular items at Change.gov’s Citizen Briefing Book the most talked about idea amongst the American people, you remember, the ones President Obama wants to reconnect with, is the decriminalization of marijuana.

Now I’ve already talked about the way in which marijuana was deemed illegal and also it’s benefits not only agriculturally, industrially, medically and socially. President Obama admitted that he himself smoke marijuana and did indeed inhale, that’s the point. And yet his administration recently released a statement that said President Obama is not in favor of decriminalizing marijuana.

Q: “Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?” S. Man, Denton

A: President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

    Source

So, Mr. Barry Obama, will you legalize hemp and marijuana? Will you instantly create a multi-billion dollar industry and save this country, possibly world, from another great depression? Will you listen to citizens of this country who say that marijuana should be legalized? Or will you do as every other president and ignore us?

What is your answer, sir?

Painting The White House Green?~One Month Into Office

I told you this reporter would keep you updated on whether Obama would keep his word to the GREEN community. One of the things he promised us was that he wouldn't be allowing any more raids on Dispensaries because it was an unneccesary use of funds. I thought we'd at least get a month before we had to report on anything in this column. It didn't even take that long.
According to our California contacts, the DEA already raided a Dispensary in California while Obama was moving into the White House. I have included the information for you here.  Everyone starts with an A in my book, and President Obama is no different. His good name now has a little bit of tarnish on it.  How many patients had to go without eating, how many drug addicts didn't end up kicking the dope, how many Dads, Moms and Grandparents could not hold their babies or focus on homework because they had no access to the medicine they need? And to make matters worse, there were no charges filed, the DEA just took all of the medication and shut them down. I wonder how quick they would be to seize the medication if they knew it was scheduled to go out to their cancerous Momma that day?
In any war, there are soldiers who give up their lives for the rest of us. Those of us who grow know the risks that we take and we take them anyway because it is for the greater good. Isn't that right, Bunky? As grown men and women soldiers, we put our battle gear on each day that we walk into our gardens. Some of us may survive the war. Some of us may come out of it with permanent scars, like myself. (Our war stories are for another day and another blog). But still we got to choose. Now the states are allowing sick people to grow this plant as one last ditch effort before they die and the Federal Government will not honor what the states have decided its people want for themselves. They come and raid the Dispensaries because they are easy targets. They know the battle in court may not hold up but they know it will be too late for them to do anything about the seized medication. Every person who has had to deal with seizure has this complaint. If our prescription diabetes medication was taken during an arrest, we would be able to get access to it while in jail and while in prison. Most certainly, we would be financially conpensated for it if it were lost during the processing, or it would be returned along with the rest of our property. That is not the case with Cannabis. They determine that the 'garden' or 'dispensary' is the location of the crime and that gives them the right to seize them.
This is what President Obama promised would stop when he came into office, yet it is still happening. What can we do to make sure he knows that the GREEN community is upset? Stay tuned to find out what tangible thing YOU can do this month.

First Medical Marijuana Raid by DEA under Obama Administration

Advocates call on president Obama to quickly change harmful, outdated policy

Oakland, CA -- The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) raided a medical marijuana dispensary today in South Lake Tahoe, California, in the first days of the new Obama Administration. Even though President Barack Obama had made repeated promises during his election campaign to end federal raids in medical marijuana states, many high-ranking Bush Administration officials have yet to leave office. For example, still at the helm of the DEA is acting Administrator Michele Leonhart, who has been responsible for numerous federal raids in California, following in the footsteps of her predecessor Karen Tandy. Neither Eric Holder, President Obama's pick for U.S. Attorney General, nor a new DEA Administrator, have taken office yet.

Quote:

"Whether or not this unconscionable raid on a medical marijuana provider is the fault of federal officials from the previous administration, President Obama has an opportunity to change this harmful and outdated policy," said Caren Woodson, Director of Government Affairs for Americans for Safe Access (ASA). "We are hopeful that these are the last remnants of the Bush regime and that President Obama will quickly develop a more compassionate policy toward our most vulnerable citizens."

Medical marijuana and an unknown amount of cash was seized during the raid today from Holistic Solutions, but no arrests were made. This first DEA raid under the new Obama Administration is another example of more than 100 raids on medical marijuana providers that have occurred in California over the past two years. While the greatest federal enforcement has occurred in California, the DEA has been active in other states as well. Federal agents raided the Washington State offices of a medical marijuana advocacy group that was supplying starter plants to hundreds of authorized patients. In Oregon, a federal grand jury was used by the DEA to obtain the medical records of several patients, an effort that was later rejected by a federal court. The DEA also went as far as to threaten New Mexico officials for planning to implement that states medical marijuana distribution program.

"I would not have the Justice Department prosecuting and raiding medical marijuana users," Senator Obama said in an August 2007 statement. "It's not a good use of our resources," he continued. This statement was followed up by Obama in other public events in the run up to the election. "President Obama must rise to the occasion by quickly correcting this problem and by keeping the promise he made to the voters of this country," said Woodson. ASA has been working with the new Administration on changing federal law around medical marijuana, which has included providing a comprehensive set of policy recommendations.

Painting The White House Green

Paint The White House GREEN!

The latest Obama-induced phrase is, "We're paintin' The White House black."
"Black?! I said to OldSkoolGuy, "what are they talking about? If anything it should be painted GREEN!"

Well. we had a few laughs about it but the phrase kept festering in my brain as I worked on our website.  It's actually not a bad idea when you think about it!
C'mon, we're not serious about actually painting  The White House green any more than The African American community is about painting it black; although I am sure there are a few whackos out there who want to make it even more surreal by changing the outside paint job. No, what we're talking about is a change in 'attitudes' and 'mentality' concerning Cannabis. If the whole world is looking to President Obama for all kinds of changes that benefit them, then why not The Cannabis Community? We should be just as thrilled as the Black community that there is change coming. After all, are we not a group of minorities whose voice has not been heard in this country since 1937 when Cannabis was withdrawn from the American public? They took a PLANT away from us even against the advice of the medical community, including The American Medical Society.

Currently, the most dangerous thing about using Cannabis is getting arrested. Our government still expects us to believe that Cannabis is addictive, dangerous, and leads to other harmful behaviors like drug addiction, violence, health problems, terrorism, and rape. As long as they can keep us believing these lies, we  will remain in bondage to them. Just think about this; African Americans were already free to become whatever they wanted in this country. The only people not allowed to become President of The United States are those born outside our country. There was never a 'black list' with all African Americans on it that said they could not run, qualify for, or win the Presidency! Now that Obama is in The White House, millions of black folks have been set free from those lies that kept them in bondage. It is lies that keep the Green community in chains also. Lies that our cops, Judges, and citizens still believe.  Our chains aren't invisible as they are in the Black community, however. Our chains are literal. An African American won't be arrested for running for The Oval Office. We do get arrested for growing, buying, and using dried flowers that helps us just be normal citizens. We are in a Civil War with our government over our rights to benefit from a plant .  When they declared war on Cannabis, they declared war on the people who need it.
The United States government spends billions of dollars every year to fight the war on drugs. If they removed Cannabis from that list of 'Drugs they might actually win the war on the really wicked concoctions that are out there. Currently, an inordinate proportion of their budget is spent on projects to keep the mainstream public believing that Cannabis is a dangerous drug. This is one of the bloodiest battles that we fight against them. Ask any Mom who has had to explain to her children why their older brother, Daddy, or Grandpa is going to jail for the plants growing on their property. Ask any patient who suffers because their Doctor cut them off from their pain medication for also using a Cannabis tea. Ask any AIDS patient who can't gain weight how it feels to have to fight another battle of discrimination to get a  plant that will help them eat so they can stay alive just a little bit longer with their loved ones. I've seen the battle scars and the festering wounds out there, and they weren't caused by the Cannabis plant but by our own Government.  "By the people, for the people..." What people? The ones who are still brainwashed into believing that Cannabis is more harmful than good?
We can still grow, process, package, promote, sell, buy, and use the tobacco plant in this country. They have figured out every last detail in order to get Tobacco to the American people and the International market. They don't complain that there is no way to 'track' the product that comes from a plant. They don't wage war on it because there are some people who have died from using it. There are no known deaths resulting from the use of Cannabis. They don't complain that Tobacco is a 'limited use' product. The actual products that can come directly from the Cannabis plant are too many to list. No one complains that Tobacco cannot be 'taxed'. Anyone who has ever had the pleasure of purchasing Tobacco will tell you that our Government has no problems assigning Tax to a package of Tobacco cigarettes. The last time I checked, one could easily grind dried Cannabis and roll it into a cigarette. 20 of these same-size cigarettes would fit into a similar size package that could be sealed, stored, transported, and taxed. Maybe that is too easy. It's too easy to allow private business to grow and develop an easily transported product for consumers. I can go right down to Emerald Cross in Seattle,  http://www.emeraldcross.org and purchase a little jar of  CannaCream* that IMMEDIATELY stops the pain when I rub it into a muscle sore from spasms. I did this last summer and kept track of who I used it on, what the effects were, how long it lasted, AND the product stayed viable for more than three months. I ended up using all that I had before it went bad. That's too easy, though, to allow companies to develop similar creams that could be purchased at any pharmacy. They claim that it is easier for them to track down growers, buyers, producers, and users, arrest them, put them in jail, keep them healthy while they are in jail, take them to court, involve the court system and busy citizens to decide that they are guilty of breaking our laws, put them in prison, keep them healthy while in prison, care for their families affected by the arrest, support the children with State money while parents are incarcerated, keep track of them when they get out, involving the parole system and the other already over- taxed agencies,  than it is to figure out a way to process, track, and tax the Cannabis plant.
TRUTH. It's so simple a small child can recognize it. There is no excuse for keeping Cannabis a Schedule 1 drug. The truth is sometimes so simple that we miss it. We get distracted by the webs of deception spun by Propogandists. MONEY. That's the truth. That is the reason they wouldn't change it in the past. There is a saying that goes, "The voice with the biggest wallet gets to be heard. If this is true, then we will get heard. We are almost the majority now. All of the baby boomers and their kids are taking the seats of leadership. This may mean a positive shift in the way Cannabis is viewed in this country. There are amazing groups doing their part to get the True Message of Marijuana out there. And let us not forget, there's a new color in The White House; new priorities, a new vision, and a voiced determination to bring change. We'll have to see if that change includes us. I'm willing to take a man at his word until he proves otherwise with his actions. We've heard what Obama had to say about The Medical Marijuana issue. If you didn't get to see it, watch the video on our website at http://www.webjam.com/the_greenway. Once you get there, turn to our News page to view any of the latest videos put out by one of these Marijuana Truth groups.
We've seen Obama make some promises with his mouth. Many politicans do. Some follow through. Most do not.
"Yeah! President Obama DID Inhale!"
The one thing that will set Obama apart from other President's before him is his honesty about inhaling. I don't know about you, but I was glad to hear that he had consumed some Marijuana in his lifetime. From the Medical Marijuana viewpoint, the fact that Obama has consumed it in his lifetime is a good thing. He knows some truths about it, at least, that you just can't grasp unless you've experienced it for yourself. There is no way to explain to a non-user how wonderful the effect is upon our bodies, our minds, and our spirits. In that way, an excellent experience with Cannabis is like making love. Sad but true, there are those out there who condem it because they have a faulty viewpoint of it. Somewhere along the way the untruths piled up so high that they made a fortress around their hearts to protect the lies that they choose to believe. They refuse to let any other message get through. My friend Lew, http://www.fossilized customs.com, says that people weren't upset by the fact that the world wasn't round. They were upset by the fact that it wasn't flat. We're not going to change the minds of these kind of people who have erected these types of fortresses. We're only going to get through to the people who listen to us all the time anyway. It starts with each of us as individuals. If we allow lies to enter our home and infect our families, they will eventually infect our neighborhoods, then our cities, our states, and then our nations. Our actions always begin with a thought. If the thought is wrong, or involves a faulty belief, what will our actions be? This question has to be asked of ourselves every day as we continue to fight in the front trenches in this absurd war on our medication. I don't know about all of you, but I would much rather have the money spent on researching the types of strains that are going to help my friends with AIDS enjoy another meal, or ease my husband's pain enough so that he can lift up his baby. I would much rather see my tax dollars go toward teaching the inner youth how to grow a Cannabis garden for their community dispensary.
It remains to be seen whether or nor the new colors at The White House will include the color green. I'm looking to see the BIG CHANGES that will keep innocent Cannabis users out of the jails and prisons. I'm looking to see Cannabis available to every person that would like to use it. Personally, I'd like to see it treated like Basil, but that's another Blog for another day. If legalization means Cannabis will be packaged and sold like Tobacco, then so be it. It is unrealistic for us to think our Government will give up the revenue that the 'War On Drugs' brings them. They're going to want to make some money off of it, and that's okay. I'm willing to pay a tax on my Marijuana cigarettes if I decide to purchase them, aren't you?
But, for now, it is only a dream. Kind of like having a dream to see a minority President in office, or a woman. We can only hope, with the rest of the country, that President Obama will be sitting in his Green Room at The White House one day. He'll look around at the color and remember what he has proclaimed to The Green Community. He'll pick up his green phone, take a sip of his green energy drink, and make the calls that will set the wheels in motion. Stay tuned to find out what happens next when we attempt to send President Obama our offical green 'WELCOME TO OFFICE" letter. This reporter will keep you in the green!
