Quad-City Native to Perform at South Park Church

Written on 02-Jun-2009 by SouthPark.PCUSA

Pianist Craig Sale will present a solo recital on Sunday, July 12 at 3pm at South Park Presbyterian Church 1501-30th St. Rock Island. The recital will present works by Haydn, Liszt, Ravel and Grieg. A freewill offering to benefit the hunger missions of Churches United of the Quad-Cities will be taken. “It gives me great pleasure to be able to ‘come home’ and perform some beautiful music and also help a good cause,” Sale comments.

Born and raised in Moline, Craig Sale now maintains an active professional career in the Chicago area as teacher, author, clinician and pianist. While growing up in the Quad-Cities he was active with the Moline Boys’ Choir and QC Music Guild. He graduated from Moline High School in 1975. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University and a Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Following graduate study he served as a teaching fellow at The New School for Music Study in Princeton, NJ.

Since 1983, Sale has established himself as a highly respected teacher in the Chicago metropolitan area. He has served as Director of the Preparatory and Community Piano Program at Concordia University Chicago in River Forest, IL since its inception in 1986. He also teaches courses in piano pedagogy at Concordia where he helped establish a Certificate in Piano Pedagogy curriculum.

Sale is the co-author of The Music Tree 3: Activities and The Music Tree 4: Activities, published by Alfred Publishing. Since 2000, he has served as Associate Editor for Clavier Companion, a bi-monthly magazine for pianists and piano teachers.

As a workshop and master class clinician, Sale has appeared throughout the US. He frequently serves as adjudicator for various music teacher organizations. This summer he will serve as a Yamaha “Passport to Music” keyboard instructor for Crystal Cruises, traveling to Spain, France, Italy and Croatia. He is a member of Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), Illinois State Music Teachers Association (ISMTA), and Chicago Area Music Teachers Association (CAMTA).

Sale is the son of Donald and Marilyn Sale, Moline, who are members of South Park Church.

Thank you very much for the birthday cards you have collected and given to the Church School kids to use - they are greatly appreciated.  Our present need is for Valentine and Easter cards.  Please think of us when you clean out your cards and then deliver them to me when you come to church.  Thanks again.

All are welcome to participate in an assembly of Christian believers for an ecumenical prayer service in observance of the Week of Prayer (January 18-25, 2009) for Christian Unity.  The Week of Prayer was established to invite Christians to work and pray for unity as modeled by Jesus when He prayed for His disciples “that they may all be one” (John 17:20-21).

The prayer service will take place on Mon., Jan. 19, 7:00 p.m., at St. Pius X Church, 2502 29th Ave., Rock Island.  Area churches, including South Park Presbyterian (Pastor Kenn Shedenhelm preaching), St. James Lutheran, and Churches United will be involved.  All are invited to a social following the service at the parish center, Farrell Hall.
