Soccer Babies vision is to support the creation and development of youth football teams in order to achieve the ultimate goals of :
We believe strongly that the passion of football can be harnessed in order to build youth football clubs and academies that become a focal point in the local communities they serve.
The original roots of the Soccer Babies project can be traced back to 2008 when an appeal for football kit was launched on behalf of an aspiring youth football club in Ghana. A member of the Soccer Babies team became involved in the appeal and was quickly inspired by the huge potential to harness the passion for football among young kids in order to further local community development.
The vision of the organisation is to aid local community development, education, and nutrition through the love and passion that so many children in Africa have for football. In forming our view of 'the need,' we used The United Nations Millenium Development Goals as our starting foundation. 'In the field', many of the practical measures being designed and formalised have been inspired by other charitable organisations and NGOs such as New Ways and The Craig Bellamy Foundation.
Following a visit to Ghana, The Babies F.C. club in Ghana rapidly became the pilot club for the Soccer Babies project. Soccer Babies is now the club's sponsor, providing ongoing advice and support, and supplying football kit and equipment generously donated by individuals and other football clubs, and working with the club to achieve financial self-sufficiency. The club has become a renowned success story in Northern Ghana and is a focal point in the local village, with the simple rule that all playing club members must attend school just one example of how the charity's influence is directly benefiting the community.
