Know a Neighbour, Save Your Pub

A Pub is for Life not just for Christmas

National Know a Neighbour Save Your Pub Campaign

 Welcome to our campaign.

A part of our national identity and our cultural heritage is dying. The traditional Great British Pub. Yes, it really is. As many as 60 pubs really are closing down every week. Don’t stop reading. A major part of our national heritage is disappearing before our very eyes. They're being turned into private dwellings, restaurants, doctors surgeries or simply boarded up as an eyesore for vandalism in the very heart of our communities.

The pub is as important to a local community (rural, urban or suburban) as the school or post office. Pubs have been hit by so much in recent times. Whether it’s increases in beer duty and rent, the smoking ban or planning legislation, and now - the current government campaign blaming pubs for excessive/binge drinking.

70% of alcohol is consumed in the home. Probably by people while they’re tweeting instead of talking to each other! Apparently some retailers are selling beer cheaper than water. A pub should be encouraged because at least excessive drinking can, to a degree, be policed by the responsible licensee.

I met someone in my empty local pub recently who told me he’s on Facebook and he’s got 5 friends, and apart from a relative in Zanzibar, they all live in his street. What?! It suddenly dawned on me how seriously we’re losing our community spirit. I have to confess I can think of two or three neighbours in my street who I don’t really know, other than to wave at as they drive by.

Our campaign is to embrace the very technology that might be contributing to us not talking with our neighbours any more, and launch a campaign to invigorate the spirit of local communities and help save a national British icon in the process - the traditional British pub.

We want everyone to invite a neighbour who they don’t really know down to the pub. It's the opportunity to have a good time, make new friends and forge relationships with those on our own doorstep; and at the same time help save something that’s at the heart of a British community - the traditional pub.

So why not do your bit to Save the Pub? To register your support, post a message below. Help spread the word by clicking below to invite your friends and colleagues to do likewise.

And Pubs... remind your local population what they're missing. Deliver first class hospitality and service, and remember to support your locals too by serving as much locally sourced quality food and drink as possible.

And finally... I'm not going to do the usual nannying bit by saying drink responsibly, as I'm sure you're responsible enough, but please do remember to support your local taxi service too whilst partaking!

Good luck and thanks for visiting.

It's already too late for many great pubs. Let's not lose the ones we have left.

I agree with you. Unfortunately most of the local pubs have already closed.

A fine idea. Glad to support it via my 3 venues and will use the poster on local mailshots in Feb 10. Keep it up.
