Ed, Yes the tunnel is still being used. I hear the trains going through the tunnel everyday, especially late at night when it is quiet outside. I've been to the tunnel via the road you spoke about, it been over 30 years ago. The road has been closed for years and the brush has grown up making it a tough hike. Someone a few years back had cleared a path to the tunnel for people to hike down to the tunnel. Notice the train picture on the main page in the photo section. I think the photo was taken in September of this year. You can see the entrance to the tunnel in the picture.

I would love to take my 3 year old down to see the tunnel. is it somewhat easy access or is there a lot of downhill hiking involved? Will I get in trouble if I take him down there? Where does the path start?
