Shadeclaw’s heart pounded in fear as his kit grasped the air. The current was pulling her strong. Suddenly there was a giant splash. “Bonetail!” Bonetail had jumped in the water. “Hold on Amberkit!!” he rushed through the water with all his might. They came to a fast current. Before the kit was swept in, Bonetail grabbed her by the scruff. Keeping her above the water, they swirled through the sharp rocks. The current pulled them like a cat, battle ready. Finally, a root caught them like an act of StarClan. Shadeclaw and Redfall rushed up to him. Shadeclaw grabbed the kit and Redfall lifted Bonetail out of the water. He was bleeding badly in some places from the sharp rocks that had scraped his sides. Ashkit ran and huddled into her mother, shivering and wide eyed. “Bonetail! That was great of you. Are you okay?” Bonetail coughed. To Shadeclaw’s horror it was blood. He laid still. “Bonetail!? I’ve got to get him back to the medicine cat den. He licked is mates ear, lifted Bonetail onto his back and started to run toward camp. “Grasstail! Help! Bonetail fell in the creek and got pulled into the currents!” he ran over to the medicine den. He laid Bonetail down and Grasstail started hurriedly gathering herbs, and laying them on his wounds. Shadeclaw sat and watched and watched. He wasn’t going to let his friend die. As Grasstail rubbed a herb on his chest, she stopped horrified. His chest wasn’t rising and falling anymore. Shadeclaw felt tears well up in his eyes. “No.” he looked at Grasstail disbelievingly. “He’s not ready to join StarClan. He is still a FireClan warrior.” Grasstail shook her head. “You never know when StarClan is in need of a new warrior.” Shadeclaw collapsed. “It’s all my fault. It’s all my fault.” Grasstail sat down beside him. “But he fell in didn’t he?” “Yes, after my kit! He saved her life. I was playing rough with them, and Amberkit fell in. He saved her. But he couldn’t save himself.”
