Google is worlds largest search engine on the net. Most search engines are just that, search engines. Google is different, it also has an email service called gmail and the Google earth feature. With the Google Earth feature you can type any address or landmark into the search bar and you will be able to see an aerial view of that place.
You can also use Google on a variety of wireless phones. For business owners, Google has the Adwords Program where companies can use Google to advertise their business. Or a website owner can use the Adsense program, which helps put ads on web pages that offer links to sites, related to the content on the page.
Google was founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin who began their road to fame in a Sanford University dorm room. Larry and Sergey met in 1995 and in the beginning were not the greatest of friends. In 1998 they met their angel, who invested $100,000 in Google Inc. At this point, the company named Google Inc. was not even a company, so the investment money sat in a desk draw for a couple of weeks while Larry and Sergey set up shop.
The two ended up with $1,000,000 in investments from friends, family, acquaintances and others. When the doors of Google Inc. finally opened in September if 1998. The boys had set up in a friends garage and had hired their first employee, Craig Silverstein, who is now Google’s director of technology.
Google has a webbot called the Googlebot which finds and retrieves web pages and sends them back to you. Googlebot, although it may be easy to picture it as such, is not this little “spider” which scurries over the strands of information in cyberspace. Googlebot functions much like the browsers you or I use.
Googlebot can call for thousands of web pages at once. In fact, the Googlebot intentionally slows searches down as not to overcrowd and overwhelm web servers. Search engines' available metrics for index size differ to a great extent and are not any longer easy to compare. As I said before, Google is the worlds largest search engine. Google has made it easy to find more of what you are looking for.
The employees at Google come in a many types, all with energetic and innovative minds. Google has numerous employees and offices around the globe. Co-founder of Google Inc., Larry Page said “Our employees are everything.” It is estimated that Google owns some where between 32,000 and 72,000 computers.
