meiner Ansicht :D

Here is a project to support the participation of women in top positions in
the EU.
Personally I could live with it if a woman (or even more than one) were to
occupy a top position in the EU.
I have even showed my willingness by casting my vote. I know, I know ...
I am just so progressive with my outlook :D

I don't understand and it's not a question of languages...

Why doesn't the EU promote a project to support the participation of competent & smart people in its top positions independntly if they are man, woman or another gender?

Hi Cris, No, I think I pretty much covered the language issue ;) _____________ Your point is a far from silly one. Logically, if one makes the assumption that clever people are equally represented by men and women (as I would), that suggestion would simultaneously resolve the above problem, too. ______________ In all honesty, I think "positive discrimination" (as in the link in the post) is a poor way of resolving the problem. That said, the EU would most probably claim that they already conduct procedures similar to what you recommend (even if they are lying through their teeth).___________ Normally ideal solutions are not realistic solutions because politics is a cranky process (at least according to my political ideology). __________________ Take another example: Marginally I am pleased that Barack Obama won the American election against John McCain. Would I agree with the reasons promoted in the media (and as a result in a lot of people's voting decisions) for voting? Without claiming to have read even nearly 10%, my instinct would be that I'd think 95% of them to be fallacious.________________ Right result for the right wrong reasons.________________ Thanks for your lucid thoughts on this issue.

I agree with paul... and with cris (that's--bad-- diplomacy!)
If human beings were always rational and act upon the reasons they claim to be acting on, basic principles as the one cristian mentioned will pefectly do the job. But as it happens, we are not so rational (there are many good and funny experiments backing this claim) and we do not always follow the reasons we claim to follow.
Companies, CEOs and many people in power (women included) systematically claim not being implementing any discriminating policy. Most of them sincerely declare being themeselves equalitarian. But the fact is that women are systematically underrepresented in top positions and we don't like that. It might well be that they don't really want to ocuppy those positions, or that coincidentally, all applicants to all the jobs are systematically less prepared to their male colleagues. Now, this is at the very least suspicious and, since the rational way to do it does not seem to work as it should, let's try the "por mis cojones" way.

    Absolutelly bad diplomacy...

    You're right... Unfortunatelly!...

Actually the "por mis cojones" way is the one that was working during the last... Hmmm... let say, 15,000 years (¿?)...

And as you mentioned this is not only a questions of "machos cabríos"... You also have to include Maggie's, Angela's, Esperanza's, Cristina K's, ..., cojones!... (probably, they are worst than males)

Competent and smart people only pay atention to gender in romantic moments... the rest of time, it doesn't matter...

BTW, In the governments, where are the "smarters"?

Yep!... It takes time to make it welll and deep... but this looks like they are working in a committee (writing the project).... And you know what people use to say about committee effectiveness!

One can argue that cases like Obama's is in a certain way the product of affirmative action. IVY LEAGUE Universities (and other academic institution) have a quota in the admissions alocation for minorities (Blacks among them, obviously). It has been claimed that being a graduate from Harvard and Columbia was crucial for his ulterior career. So it is not only a question of time, although it obviously helps.

It's true... (this is a good and effective act of diplomacy that I learnt in The Idi Amin Scholl of High Diplomacy )

We go back to the smart & competent need... in addition

Hmmmm.... we have to see him ("Los pingos se ven en la cancha"... "The horses are really tested in a competition")...

On the other hand, there was a woman that was not elected... Hillary!
