7th Poop Scoop

7th Poop ScoopOttery Dogs have undertaken their 7th poop scoop and have seen a vast improvement in hotspot areas.   For those who were worried about sustainability, we have remained committed and 8 months later we are still working hard to clean up our town and feedback is telling us we are having an impact.

There is still a problem on the embankment to the left of the field in the Millennium Field, these are all small poos!  Someone must know who is doing this so please let us know in confidence on our hotline!

Ottery Dogs have contributed to 4 fixed penalties in our town over the last few months!

Sixth Poop Scoop Day 25th April 2009

6th Poop Scoop

6th poop scoopOttery Dogs were out in force again and picked up 167 piles of poo.  There was a significant improvement on the Millennium Field, with only 46 collected, we need to stress that 50% of these were from the embankment on the left of the field, these are small dog poos!  Do you know who could be responsible for this, please let us know in confidence.  We have received lots of positive feedback about our recently installed community bin which is being well used.  As many of you know there has always been a 'poobag graveyard' near the entrance to the river gate, since clearing the undergrowth and flood damage, we are proud to report that this area has been kept clear and is still clear of festering poo bags.  Of course we got another 63 piles from Higher Ridgeway which is now a total of 215 since we began our clean ups!  C'mon people who are these people who are not picking up, let us know in confidence and help us to put a stop to this!

OD will undertake their 7th Poop Scoop Event on Saturday 30th May, more support is needed if we are going to cover the 75 areas of the town and the Millennium Field which in terms of size is resource intensive.  You don;t need to pick up just be a pair of eyes for us, every little helps

Anyone available to help please contact us  otterydogs@yahoo.co.uk Your help would be really appreciated.

Fifth Poop Scoop 28th February 2009

A real dogs toilet!

Ottery Dogs tackled dog poo in the ‘factory side’ of the Millennium Field and have picked up a staggering 284 pilesLAADSCF4351.2jpg of poo in one day!

81 of these were on the top of the embankment to the left of the field!  We also picked up along the pathway from the bridge to the start of the river as many people who take the factory exit use this route and discovered a ‘poobag’ graveyard in the undergrowth to the right of the gate into the main river! There were at least 20 bags in here!

Remember if you bag it and then drop it, these bags will take years to biodegrade!

Hats off to our young poop scoopers Luisa and Amy whose commitment helped us to find Poo's in all the difficult to access areas!

Fourth Poop Scoop Day 31st January 2009

Happy New Year!

Ottery Dogs clean up in the town and green areas and have covered a stagDSCF4336.2gering 37 additional areas, increasing our street coverage by 400% from 15 to 75. We are expanding all the time to clean up our Town.

We picked up a staggering 57 piles of poo from the pathway from Ridgeway to the Cob House, which over the last four months has been an increase of 415%, but we did meet a kind gentleman who tells his he often picks up after others, so thank goodness someone is trying to keep on top of this!

We also sent out a team of 11 "poop scoop" teams who went to the areas previously identified and a few new areas too!

Ottery Dogs would like to raise funding to put a bin in this area and would welcome views from residents in Ridgeway as to where they feel this would be of most benefit.  If you can suggest a suitable site, that is not close to anyone’s front door or near to the cemetery!

Second Poop Scoop Day Update

0 Comments- Add comment Written on 05-Mar-2009 by Otterydogs

2008_1129OTTERYDOGS00112Ottery Dogs" held their second weekend of action on Friday 28th and Saturday 29th of November

Group members turned out for the late night shopping event and handed out bags of information to shoppers, this was supported by East Devon District Council Dog Warden, Victoria Hall who also gave out information.  The group are now running a petition which was signed by many people who are in support of Ottery Dogs mission statement and do not want a dog ban or restrictions on dog walking in our open spaces.

On Saturday morning we had a stall outside of Boots Chemist in the square and asked passers by for their opinions on dog fouling in the town.   We also sent out half a dozen "poop scoop" teams who went to the areas identified by the Town Council as being the worst areas for dog mess and other areas highlighted by the public. During the morning we picked up less poos than our last poop scoop day, over a wider area, despite the onset of the darker nights and mornings, could this mean the message is getting out to people!

We covered 23 areas and picked up 59 piles of poos (the majority of these were from the Ridgeway Area)

First Poop Scoop day Update

25th October - First Poop Scoop day a success!

Dog owners turned up in force to clean up Ottery, six teams set out to clear up the streets of Ottery with smiles on their faces and support from the people of Ottery.  Later in the day some 80 plus people turned up, children, parents with prams, people in mobility scooters with continued support, anxious to voice their worries on the long term affects a ban may propose and to meet Debbie Connolly from Dog Borstal – she was fantastic and gave us loads of ideas and support for a positive way forward and whole heartedly supports our values and ethics.

14 Roads patrolled, a total of 67 Poo’s collected! Well Done Team!!

We would like to say a BIG THANK YOU to Debbie Connolly, The Kennel Club, the Towns Dog Warden – Victoria Hall, Ikin & Oxenham and everyone else who came to support us.  It was a Fantastic Day!

Poop Scoop Days

Our first Poop Scoop day is 25th October 2008.

In response to the proposed Dog Ban by Ottery Town Council, Ottery Dogs - as part of our ongoing campaign to promote and encourage responsible dog ownership, we are starting a number of Poop Scoop Days in Ottery St Mary.

During the morning we will be located in the Square, Ottery St Mary Town Centre, talking to residents about the issue of dog mess, how and when to worm your pet - information supplied by Novartis Animal Health UK Limited, making Ottery a cleaner place.
We have support from local shop keepers, the local Vet Ikin & Oxenham and East Devon District Council who are supplying poo bags and additional information leaflets.

At the same time Ottery Dogs will have small teams cleaning up the parts of the Town the Council has identified as problem areas. We will be wearing our "poop scoop" T- shirts so it will be easy to identify us. Our intention is to repeat the "poop scoop" activity on a regular basis.

In addition to this at 2:15 p.m. at the Land of Canaan Debbie Connolly who appears in the BBC3 series “Dog Borstal” and writes regularly for Dogs Today Magazine will be joining us and showing her support; she will tell us about herself and her organisation http://www.safepets.co.uk/

The press have been invited and we look forward to seeing you there.
