Want to ease yourself into a classical storyline without too much culture shock? The Cohen Brother's 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' is a great way. This is by no means a resemblance of any classical literature but it is a funny film that is loosely based upon Homer's Odyssey. The main character's name Ulysses (played by George Clooney) is the Roman version of the Greek name Odysseus and the story line parallels that of the Odyssey, following a man's journey back home and the encounters he meets on the way.
This is a film that can not be used as a fast track way to learn about Odysseus' story (you have to read the Odyssey) however it is funny to watch and something you should see again once you have read Homer. A lot of the characters allude to characters in the Odyssey and therefore you can get a lot more of the comedy out of the film.
