On the road... » Barnsley, Saturday 16th October

Room for Improvement

Since the last report after Preston, things haven't really changed. 1-1 was usually the score with a bit of variety only appearing on the rarest of days. Probably the only positive to take from the latest game at Barnsley was that we have broke the score draw habit although I wish we hadn't. I can't be bothered to spend too much time analysing what was a dour performance but we did our best to help the Tykes earn victory. That started even before kick-off when we decided to name four central midfielders in the middle and then failed (yet again) to defend a cross after a couple of minutes. We also need a striker; big time.

The ninety minutes of dross spoiled a decent day which had begun at 10.45 at Nottingham station. Most of the usual suspects were in attendance and Adam made an appearance while PL was an hour behind and Trig once again opted for the more tranquil surroundings of Family Bethell travel.

Mitchell was in a state after visiting the beer festival at The Castle on the Friday and, in the words of Ad, was 'floating' around which about summed it up. By 12.11 and a couple of cans later, we arrived in Barnsley. The usual heavy police presence was absent and we weren't stopped or sheperded anywhere so we headed into town to the White Bear. From there we made the short walk to a favourite haunt of ours, Chennels. In there were joined by Gerb, Sea Beast and co.

The football did its best to put its dampener on things soon after but, undeterred, we made our way into Sheffield aboard a packed train ending up at The Globe just up past the Howard. We had hoped to give the Tap bar on the station a try but they were queuing out the door just to get in! Maybe next time.

Off the train, the Bentinck was followed by the Waterfont where PL and I found ourselves as the only ones left.  A few pints later I boarded the last train back to Hucknall at 11pm.

The next few weeks holds some long and tough looking away trips. We could do with rediscovering our mojo and also finding a way to get some bloody players in. The team just don't look possible of recreating last seasons efforts at the moment. Sven has managed to grab a couple of decent loans within days of arriving at Leicester so why can't we?

We also now find ourselves behind that shower down the road and that just won't do...
