Championship leaders Wolves were next in line for Forest as the Reds looked to recover from last Saturday’s mauling at Turfmoor.

Again, there were changes to the team as manager Billy Davies continues to shuffle his pack. Loan signing Iain Turner replaced Paul Smith in goal, and there were returns to the starting line up for Joel Lynch, Kelvin Wilson, Lewis McGugan and Paul Anderson.

In truth the game didn’t really live up to expectations as defences dominated throughout. In a poor first half Paul Anderson’s run and cross had Wolves keeper Wayne Hennessey stretching whilst at the other end Wes Morgan’s slip almost allowed Sylvain Ebanks-Blake in, before Ebanks-Blake shot from distance was well held by Turner on the stroke of half time. The second half could only get better surely?

Forest’s best chance of the game came right at the start of the second period. After Chris Cohen was brought down right on the edge of the box Lewis McGugan’s disappointing free kick cannoned straight into the wall as the chance went begging.

As time pushed on it appeared as though the game would meander to what looked like an inevitable goal less draw. However, with around 12 minutes remaining the previously subdued Michael Kightly broke the deadlock, smashing home from just inside the box after good work from Ebanks-Blake and Sam Vokes.

Forest failed to offer anything in the closing stages as the visitors comfortably saw out the remaining minutes. Wolves in fact almost doubled their advantage only for Joel Lynch to clear off the line as Ebanks-Blake forced an effort towards goal.

The 5300 away fans celebrated as Billy Davies and his players contemplated another defeat which leaves the Reds on the brink ahead of the trip to Barnsley on Saturday week. The excuses must now go out of the window and results have to come and fast. Failure to gain at least 4 points from the next 2 games will surely result in an immediate return to League One football for Nottingham Forest.

Forest: Turner, Gunter, Morgan, Wilson, Lynch, McSheffrey (Tyson 66), McGugan (Garner 78), Perch, Cohen, Anderson (McCleary 66), Earnshaw.

MOM: Wes Morgan
