With Financial Fair Play looking to come into force as early as next season, the purse strings have been tightened by owner Nigel Doughty and it seems that the current crop of young players will be fed into the first-team allowing higher earners to leave.

Clark said: "Hopefully we can push two or three young players through from the academy in the near future,

"But that is going to be the future of the club, really. We have to bring our own players through the ranks."

Other changes are also set to be introduced soon regarding youth academies and funding from the Football Association and Forest are looking to build a strong enough academy to compete with the larger clubs.

He added: "With the EPPP (Elite Player Performance Plan) – and there are more acronyms in football these days than ever before.

"When that comes in, we will have to look at where we are as well. We want to be going for a category two rating there, if we can, because that will put us in a strong position.

"Apart from very, very wealthy clubs, I don't think anyone will get grade one."

On the same day it was announced that most of Billy Davies' coaching team would be following the Scot out the door. The tieing up of loose ends and the official unveiling of McClaren finally signalled the end of the Billy Davies era, giving a moment to reflect on the success Davies' had in his 2-and-a-half years in the City Ground hot seat.

After taking charge early in 2009, Davies first game in official charge was at The Valley on 10th January, as 1st half Tyson and Earnshaw goals defeated struggling Charlton 2-0. A good start, but this proved a rare away success. The stats show a rather a dreadful 13 away wins in 56 games and in all competitions just 14 wins in 63 games. Clearly an area which has to be improved. A poor february and march appeared to signal relegation for the Reds with just 2 wins in 13 games and 8 defeats. However a strong finish saw the Reds safely (just about) home and Billy's men ended with a respectable 8 league wins from 20 and 7 defeats.

With expectations low, 2009/10 proved to be the finest campaign in Forest's recent history, playing quite simply some magnificent football and after flirting with leaders Newcastle United as late as the beginning of February, The Reds small and in-experienced squad failed to hold it together at the business end of the season, finishing a highly creditable 3rd. In the process Forest produced a 19 game unbeaten record and remained unbeaten away right up until the end of January. Despite this away run, victories were still hard to come by, only 4 in all competitions over 25 games. Home form though was on a different level 20 wins over the entire season, spanning 30 City Ground games. Defeat in the play-offs didn't really spoil what was a season to remember, when least expected.

2010/11 saw Forest placed amongst the front-runners for promotion, and deep into the season, everything seemed set. Placed just behind the automatic places, with games in hand, Forest once again crumbled under pressure and in the end, as we all know, only just scraped into the top 6, thanks to a strong finish. Defeat again in the Play-offs, this time to swansea, proved to be Davies last act.

After successive top 6 finishes, it was clearly not for footballing reasons Billy's reign ended a year before his contract expired. His outbursts towards the owner and acquisitions panel whenever possible in the media probably had something to do with it! But lets not forget just how good a record Billy had at Forest. He can certainly look back on his time on Trentside as a success, without doubt. No other boss in recent times can feel the same claim. Lets also not forget Forest's amazing unbeaten league home run, spanning a remarkable 36 games over 1 and a half years.

This was the 9th double Forest have taken the spoils, compared to the Rams 6, although 5 of those came before 1926!

Here is the complete record: (league doubles completed)

Forest 9: 2010/11 (5-2H, 1-0A), 1989/90 (2-0A, 2-1H), 1987/88 (2-1H, 1-0A), 1954/55 (2-1A, 3-0H), 1953/54 (2-1A, 4-2H), 1921/22, 1903/04, 1893/94, 1892/93.

Derby 6: 1971/72, 1925/26, 1911/12, 1904/05, 1897/98, 1895/96.

Notes: First league meeting was the 1892/93 season. The 1897/98 season Derby did the double over the Reds, however Forest had revenge by beating the Rams in the FA Cup final.

Prior to last weekends success, Forest's previous 3 away wins at Derby were; 1993/94, 1989/90 & 1988/89 (all 2-0). Whilst before Derby's 2009 3-1 league win, the Rams previous victories Trentside were in 1971/72, 1970/71 & 1969/70.

Forest league record at Pride Park P7 W1 D2 L4 F4 A10 (Also 1 FA Cup game 1-1 draw 08/09).

Total head-to-head record (league only) P78 Forest wins 33, Derby 26. Draws 19. (Cups: P9, Forest wins 3, Derby 4, Draws 2).

So there you have it. Next time a Rammy tries to tell you they'll take an easy 6 points off Forest, ask him what facts he bases his arguement on!
