COLERAINE CHARITY SHOW
RAISING FUNDS FOR COLERAINE R.D.A.
For the 64th year in succession the Coleraine Charity Show was held @ The Coleraine Show Grounds. Friday evening 11th June began with Horse show jumping and there was a good turn out of local riders. As always the Novice Horse class had high entries and strong competition, there were 6 double clear rounds all of whom drew for 1st prize and Denise Hamilton riding Star received 1st place. The Open Horse class again was well supported and 2 riders competed in the 'Jump Off' for 1st place and local rider Rachel Cochrane from Bushmills took 1st place with her horse Zarla in a time of 1 minute 4 seconds. The evening was completed with the Power & Speed class, 2 riders took the challenge and Shirley Smyth riding Rhyme won 1st place with Melonie Moorhead on Lady Pheonix a close 2nd.
The competition continued on Saturday 12th June with the Working Hunter ponies (I.P.S. Afilliated) at 10am. All classes were judged by Mrs Helen Morgan from Ballynahinch, Co. Down and local rider Claire Walker scribed on the day. The course was designed and constructed by Vincent Traynor and had the standard expected for an I.P.S. show though riders that didn't want to competed at this level were accommodated with a Riding Club class which gave the same course of fences but a lower height.
Saturday @ 11am saw the start of the pony show jumping and as always this proved very popular and many local riders came out to support this worthy Charity Show. During the day the Coleraine Riding for the Disabled provided pony rides and pony and cart rides, also there was face painting and nail artists all providing fun whilst raising funds for Coleraine R.D.A.
