raising funds for
Chest Heart & Stroke

Last Saturday the North Antrim Riding Club ran the annual Coleraine Charity Show at the Bowl in Portrush to raise funds for Chest Heart & Stroke.  Though the change of venue was very much last minute it was great to see local riders come out for this worthy cause and the Club was delighted to have added this show as a qualifier for the Show Jumper of the Year which holds its finals in Balmoral during August.

A good days competition started at 10am for Junior Riding Club members to participate in the Novice Show Jumper of the Year qualifier.   Shannon Hall riding Little Miss Millie representing her local Armagh Riding Club done them proud and took 1st place, closely followed by local rider and member of North Antrim Riding Club Paige Watt riding her home bred pony REME taking 2nd place, Paige recently qualified as part of a team for North Antrim to compete at Balmoral in the National Balmoral Show Jumping Championships in July.  The Senior Novice class was strongly contested with excellent riding between Downshire and Bann Valley Riding Clubs though Downshire being victorious with Debbie Walker riding Pickles taking 1st and Carole Young with her horse Emeroo Cross taking 2nd for Bann Valley.  The Junior Open class proved popular and young Shauna McVeigh riding for North Antrim Riding Club with her pony Crindle Orbiter was placed 1st and Shannon Hall taking 2nd place on Strawberry Dream for Armagh and 3rd place went to North Antrim Riding Club member Ashlinn Gregg riding Robbie.  The Seniors followed with the Open class and Joanne Martin riding Lucy Lou for Mossvale Riding Club took 1st followed closely followed by Kendra Reynolds for Foyle Valley.  Well done to all the riders for qualifying and good luck at Balmoral.  A big thank you to Emma Andrews, Noeline Hanna and all the crew from Mossvale Riding Club who run the Show Jumper of the Year and give local riders the opportunity to compete at Balmoral.  We look forward to working with you next year.

The competition continued, though in a different format, it was a delight for the spectators to watch a carriage drive competition which concluded with James Harte & Julie Moore taking 1st place winning the Mervyn Moody Perpetual Cup and 2nd place went to Joanne Aiken who received the Woolwhich Building Society Perpetual Cup.  Many thanks to Judge William Martin from Lurgan who gave of his time for this show.

The day progressed with the weather staying kind to provide good riding conditions for the usual show jumping classes of Coleraine Show and North Antrim Riding Club were delighted to have been supported by so many riders and together much needed funds was raised for Chest Heart & Stroke.

Coleraine Charity Show will continue to run this annual show holding the usual dates which fall on the 2nd Friday and Saturday in June annually, though the agriculture side of Coleraine Show is no longer active it has to be said that the equestrian part is very much alive and growing.

North Antrim Riding Club would like to thank Colin Richmond, Melissa Lemon of Lemontree Farm Coleraine & Dunluce Centre Portrush for their sponsorship and Coleraine Borough Council for providing the venue.  Visit www.webjam.com/northantrimridingclub for up-to-date information of North Antrim Riding Club.  Results as follows:
