Nomine
Community Choir supporting the Children's Hospice South West

Dave Hooper provides percussion for all our concerts. Dave is a very active musician currently being in 5 different groups / choirs. Dave points out that he only needs to be in 2 more groups to be out every night of the week. Dave is a brilliant percussionist and really lifts the music by his playing, whether the music is serious or silly. When not playing Dave now sings with the basses.

The choir

Nomine is made up of individuals from all over the Bristol area, many of whom travel some distance to take part. The choir is directed by Naomi Reed who is also an accomplished organist who gives recitals in her own right.

Naomi started Nomine because she had a small group of people who sometimes sang together, whom she accompanied, and who were keen to continue singing together. Naomi also recognised the phenomenal work which the Children's Hospice SW was doing and its need for ever increasing funds to enable it to care appropriately for children with terminal illnesses and for their families. (Further information on the Children's Hospice SW can be seen by clicking on their website http://www.chsw.org.uk ).  Naomi had the brainwave that she could start a choir with the small group of singers who were keen to sing and to give concerts to raise funds for the Children's Hospice SW. This vision eventually came to life and NOMINE was created.

Throughout this time, Naomi was assisted and supported by her fellow fund raiser and friend, Brenda Painter who continues to give huge support to the choir.

The choir has gone from strength to strength but relies heavily on Naomi's commitment and the commitment of its faithful members. Some of our members have reluctantly needed to step down because of other commitments and this has created shortages in some parts. We are very keen to expand the choir so that we can continue to do larger and more challenging works as well as retaining and expanding our repertoire of old favourites.

The choir meets weekly, on Wednesday evenings. Practices start at 7.45 p.m. at the United Reformed Church in the High Street in Oldland Common. (See map in Links tab)
