Written on 12-Sep-2008 by maternitySome women need to induce labor because of rather serious medical concerns. Women who are displaying high blood pressure or have diabetes are at a greater risk of complications when they are pregnant. Other medical reasons could include conditions like placenta abruption, an infection of the membranes that enclose the amniotic fluid, a premature rupture of the membranes, and preeclampsia.
Many of these women face the possibility of having to be induced to make the birth of their baby safer for everyone concerned. This is obviously not the ideal scenario, as every woman has a much nicer picture painted in her mind, but sometimes being induced or even possibly undergoing a cesarean may be what is needed to deliver the outcome we all want.

Written on 01-Sep-2008 by maternityEver heard of the drugs Oxytocin, Prostaglandin, Pitocin or Cytotec? These are the names of some of the more frequently used drugs used to induce labor in women who have a need for such a procedure.
Prostaglandin gel may get the job done by itself, but more often you find it used in conjunction with Pitocin. Pitocin is the synthetic version of the naturally occurring hormone oxytocin, which causes uterine contractions. Pitocin has many negative side effects and long term side effects are still in debate. All of these drugs cause hard uterine contractions that are only adding stress on the mother as well as the baby.
Another, more natural way to avoid these worries altogether is by employing the methods taught b maternity acupressure. Maternity acupressure uses only application of pressure on specific “pressure points” on the mother's body, and can be safely used at home by following basic instructions. Labor acupressure is a very easy to use, hands-on technique and extremely safe.

Written on 29-Aug-2008 by maternityCesarean rates have skyrocketed. There are many women nowadays, who are even scheduling them. It’s my opinion that we cannot sustain this method of birthing babies. We need to get back to a more natural ways of inducing labor and birthing.
Chemical inductions often lead to cesarean sections. To avoid that, there is an effective way to induce labor naturally that allows your body to progress through the stages of labor methodically and the way nature intended.
Acupressure is a great way to unlock areas of your body that aren’t allowing your labor to progress as it should. Or, you can use it to start labor. It is very safe and unlike a chemical induction, there are no unwanted side effects.

Written on 16-Aug-2008 by maternityThe last few weeks of pregnancy can be quite miserable. You’re big, bloated and moody and can’t wait for the baby to come out! You’re ready to induce labor. This is especially true if your pregnancy goes beyond the estimated due date.
You might be surprised to learn that there are methods that you can try at home to induce labor. It’s important to have your mind and body relaxed in preparation for labor. You might try a professional all-over body massage. Be sure to mention that you are pregnant when you make the appointment!
Once your body is relaxed, you might want to try acupressure to balance the energy systems in your body. Acupressure is an excellent method used for inducing labor.

Written on 02-Jun-2008 by maternityThere are several ways to induce labor successfully, and here's a look at some of the more common.
Some of the drugs used by doctors to help induce labor would be drugs like Pitocin, which is a synthetic version of Oxytocin, used mainly to help develop a reliable pattern of contractions. Another commonly used drug are Prostaglandins, which are man-made chemicals that mimic the body's natural one which cause the cervix to ripen and the uterus to contract.
Another method is the use of Castor oil. This causes bowel movements and can irritate the uterus, causing contractions to begin. This takes between two and six hours to work through the body, and then the contractions begin.
Another method that is far less messy and drug free would be Maternity Acupressure, which uses the fingers to stimulate "acupoints" in the woman's body, Which releases muscular tension and restores the flow of vital energy, allowing the body to behave in a more natural way. Labor will start before you know it, and a far more stress-free and less painful labor will have been the outcome.

Written on 07-May-2008 by maternityDeveloped more than 6000 years ago in Asia, Acupressure is an ancient healing art with particular application here in the 21st century. In this day and age when drugs have proven not to be our ally for the most part, people are searching for ways to do things more naturally, and drug free.
So it's little surpirse that acupressure would turn out to be one of the most popular natural ways to induce labor. Acupressure itself deals with the way energy is transmitted through our bodies, and how by gently applying pressure on "acupoints" the body responds by relaxing and releasing stress.
This is very valuable in maternity circles, as the relief of stress and pain is most desirable, and can actually help facilitate the birthing process. Studies show more than 80% success rates when attempting to induce labor through the use of maternity acupressure, with nearly none of the side affects one might associate with drugs and other medications. These techniques have also been proven to shorten labor, another very big plus.
