Local Shared Ministry

Companions

Companions are assigned to each community which commits to work toward Local Shared ministry.

Companions are appointed as a result of a conversation between each community, their denomination and the Project Group.

Companions are members of the project group and act as the main contacts between the group and the communities.

Companions have no authority, but are expected to act as ‘mentors’ for the communities. They will:

  • be active listeners
  • observe
  • encourage
  • support
  • challenge assumptions
  • point out possibilities
  • help negotiate plans and objectives
  • model collaborative ministry

Companions will be reliable, approachable, non-judgmental and realistic.

Companions will report to each meeting of the Project Group.

The Project Group will act as the ’supervision group’ for companions.
