"Pursuit of Happiness", our western world developed the idea that humanity are not happy, that happiness is a set of pleasant circumstances, and we must run after them. For some of us, happiness is a dream, always in front of us, we run after, we "pursue" it. Sometimes we catch a little bit of happiness, in a pleasant circumstance, then it slips away and we go again trying to find it.
It all start with the wrong axiom, "human being is not happy". Life is hard and happiness is out there, somewhere.
How different from what we learn from the Creator, what has been taught in oriental religions. We must remember that Christianity come from the middle east. We read in genesis 1:31 " God saw all that he had made, and it was very good" . Creation is good, mankind is good.
Verse 27 "So God created man in his own image... 28 God blessed them" . God is love and justice. We rage when we see injustice, but we show mercy to the needy. God image inside of us. Our Inner Being, our soul is the breath of God in us. Gen 2:7 "...and (He) breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being". God is a good God, full of contentment, joy, happiness and He created the humankind at His image, to be happy, full of contentment.
If someone does not believe that there is a God, or that He speaks through His word, yet we have the evidence of human happiness in the nature.
Have you seen how our pets show happiness ? how they are playful? "puppies" chase one another, hide, run , bark , wag and show how "happy" they are. It is not the same with babies? of course not barking or wagging... We still have games in adult life that reassembles our toys and moods of infancy. Happiness is inside of all of us.
We are born with Happiness, instead of pursue it we need to learn, relearn, to enjoy it. Enjoy the coffee in the morning, the bright sun, the place where we live, the people around us, and we need to show our young children that happiness is inside of us. We enjoy thoughts of peace, love and gladness, and through our thoughts we bring good circumstances. Our joy is not because the circumstances but because of the thought that brought them.
I read about a man that went through the concentration camp without loosing his mind. He said " they can take everything from me but my thoughts" .
The happiness of my thoughts bring happy circumstances, and even when circumstances are not the most desirable I still think about good things and I know things will turn around.
