JVarner's Profile » My forum » Emerging Church MovementJVarner wrote on 21 Apr 2008 19:24:43 I recently heard Dr. John Macarthur say, "Jesus is no longer the Head of the church. The unregenerate sinner is." This seems to be the idea behind the Emerging church movement. That we should cater to the sinner to draw them in. What say you?
Inactive user wrote on 21 Apr 2008 20:00:06 I say No! I was just commenting on this kind of thing this morning with my Mom. I have a friend who goes to one of the largest churches in the area. She says they have hundreds that join the church every Sunday. They speak in tongues there btw. People come to see a show and be entertained. The preacher has an altar call inviting people to join the church. In order to join, they have to say, "Yes, I believe in Jesus!" That is their entire salvation experience! No Holy Spirit, just a man giving a good show and increasing the number of people throwing money into the offering plate, I guess. What a farce!

Inactive user wrote on 21 Apr 2008 22:19:09 Jeremy, the devil has ways of diverting our attention for his attack on the church. We must never neglect and always be aware of his tactics. We must fight any doctrine or heresies against the "true church". Did he (Dr. Macarthur) agree with this or was he just making a statement trying to prove a point?
Inactive user wrote on 21 Apr 2008 22:31:54 By the way....Hey Jeremy!!! Glad to see you have joined us!!! We love you!!
Inactive user wrote on 21 Apr 2008 23:17:12 Emergent church... sounds a lot like the Laodecian church..."ruled by the people". All the while, Jesus stands outside and knocks.
JVarner wrote on 22 Apr 2008 14:32:33 Good to see and hear from you all! I am especially glad to hear your discernment. I posted the question this way to spark your comments. Dr. McArthur was making a point that the emergent church has perverted the truth. CHRIST alone is to be the head of the Church! That is his point. A point on which I whole heartedly agree. But I am preaching to the choir. I wonder if someone else would have a different comment and would like to engage in this discussion? Or perhaps someone would propose another point or topic to discuss? Thanks for the feedback and thanks to Jeremy Sams for the invite.
Inactive user wrote on 22 Apr 2008 17:12:23 Jeremy, didn't scare me...just relieved that Dr. McArthur was making a point...I like his preaching..Was hoping he had not fallen off into the deep black hole.........

JVarner wrote on 22 Apr 2008 21:16:22 That was great! You guys wouldn't believe how many youth pastors have bought into the whole Rob Bell garbage! I get so sick of people telling me, "oh man you need to reed Blue like Jazz or Velvet Elvis" You wouldn't believe how many "Christians" are going down that road. I'm finding it more difficult to try and reason with them. I'll have to forward those video links to them. How about that ending passage of Scripture... BAM! that said it all! Sorry, I get a little passionate about this topic... can you tell?
