The inflammation and swelling can be uncomfortable; that’s because the bursa has been damaged and the lubrication that normally allows the joints to glide is not there. As a result, there is friction that causes pain in joints.
Bursitis pain can be caused by activities such as raking, carpentry work, shoveling, skiing, sports activities such as tennis or golf; basically any repetitive movement that is performed for longer periods of time.
Your physician may prescribe ibuprofen or aspirin, but if you cannot take these medications because of stomach upset, you may want to consider the all natural route. Supplements such as Celadrin are great for reducing the symptoms associated with bursitis without the side affects of aspirin. If none of the conservative measures seem to work, your physician may recommend more intensive treatment such as an injection of cortisone, drainage of the bursa, or even surgical removal in cases where there are recurrent flare-ups or the bursa is not healing.
