sorry astra your wrong on that 1 any 1 fishing on heron must hav a mat and 42inch net if any 1 dosent have them then you can ask them to leave the lake and they must be set up ready to use not in abag

Seems slightly un fair ! They would moan like hell if i was fishing size 18 hook and no tiny disgourger to remove the hook.
Surely they should'nt be able to fish on the lake if they are not proplery set up with what the lake can produce. I would like to see what dave has to say about this surely he must allready no. I no about the mats and nets, ive seen a couple of match anglers net a 15lb carp in a small round net and then rest the fish on the floor ! I did have some small words to say to them as i was just looking arond the lake, some people have no respect for the fish they catch surely they should be treated well for the future.

8382 clark the match men dont have to carry big nets of unhooking mats either!!!!!

pikebob wrote:
30-Jun-2009 - 14:40

they dont have to because the rule saz you only need 1 if your fishing for carp its the same with line you should hae min 10lb linet if your fishing for carp but not if your match fishing bit of a pointless rule if 1 person has to and another 1 dosent but thats the iow fishing club for ya

Merstone has started to fish well again, but i found out the other day that the match fishermen don't have to carry a carp care kit on heron, surely it is an esentail bit of kit to carry these days. I will allways put the fish first and protect them at all costs so why dont they have to ???

very interesting to hear! i dont get up there much so wudn't have noticed, in general carp dont spawn until may through to july depending on when we get a few days of 15+ degrees. im intrigued as to why, especially so soon after the coldest winter we've had for a long time!

send your pics over to thecarphunter, he'l put them on the site. dont think there's many in the 20+ category so far..

Point taken catcher ! i must admit its nice to have an option to fish different methods but sadely we don't. The reason i no they have spawed is that three weeks ago i pulled a couple of carp and they both were full of spawn, and a couple of the other angles that week had said the same. Also there was spawn along some of the tree lines if you looked close close in with the weed

i should have also mentioned before, the boilie ban is nothing to do with us carpers not catching, its more the point that the fish in all lakes dont put on any size year in and out. infact a fair few have lost weight!

TheCatcher wrote:

welcome dan, nice to see another carper posting!

the reason i prefer fishing over beds of boilies is generally because if you hook a fish over a bed, the other fish spook for a short period, then return as there is still food in that area, so i find you get mutiple catches off of one spot. somtimes even double runs! if i fish stringers alone i very rarely get more than one take per spot!

how do you know the fish have spawned out? IMO its still to early in the season, and we've had nowhere near the right temperature to get them going!?!? interesting opinion mate..
