From: Jim Gilligan [mailto:primitive1@chartermi.net] Hi Mike, the Howell Rotary Club is planning to host a bicycle tour this fall, with a proposed date of Oct. 11. Will we need a permit? We want to make sure all road agencies and municipalities are aware of our event. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks, Jim Jim Gilligan From: Mike Craine [mailto:mcraine@livingstoncountyroads.org] Jim,

We don’t need anything. You don’t need a permit. Plenty of cycling groups have tours with more than 100 cyclists and no permit. Common sense is the only requirement. Often groups notify the Sheriff’s Department and fax them a route map so that they are aware. If for some reason, there is improved comfort with a permit we then would need a certificate of insurance with us as additional insured. This can sometimes ruin a fun outing if your underwriter gets overly risk-adverse. Your call.
Best, MC
