The Idea

The (long gone) Firecracker 100 had a brilliant layout. The route was laid out like a four-leaf clover consisting of four 25 mile loops. At the center was Maltby Middle School, where all registration, staging, sags, etc. took place. Riders could ride 25, 50, 75, or 100 miles and there was no need to staff remote sag stops. It is proposed we use the same 25 mile loops but use Mt. Brighton as the staging area.

Below in the Task List Jim, Jeff and Peter have broken the event down into different sections that need to be worked on. Included are our notes from our planning meetings.

I'm the 'official' photographer.

Jim, per our conversation this morning, I have set up an online gallery

1. In your browser, go to: http://www.bencolmanphotos.printroom.com

2. Click on the blue 'Galleries' tab in the upper left.
3. Click on the Tour de Livingston gallery.
4. Click in the password box to place the cursor there, then enter the
password. Password is: 100mi
5. View gallery and order photos.

If anyone has questions, they can contact me directly at ben@bcolman.com

I am happy to donate my time to this worthy and fun event. The weather
looks to be wonderful.

I'll see you all bright and early Saturday morning. I plan to be at Mt.
Brighton by 7 AM. Look me up and say hello.

Looking forward to a great event,

Ben

We're amenable to either day. I'm not sure what % of rides are on a Sunday vs. Saturday, especially more heavy-duty rides as this one is. This differs from a 25 mile orchard tour with some of our route options. There certainly is the "recovery mode" to consider.

I've done a little analysis from the 2008 LMB Ride Calendar. Here's the scoop:

June - 19 Saturday rides, 12 Sunday rides
July - 9 Saturday rides, 10 Sunday rides
August - 16 Saturday rides, 9 Sunday rides
September - 12 Saturday rides, 8 Sunday rides
October - 6 Saturday rides, 3 Sunday rides (not including ours)

FYI - There were 2 other smaller rides on the same date as ours this year, one in Grand Ledge and one in Potterville. There was a large ride in Clarkston offering 5 different routes the day after ours. Might be a competition of sorts if we went on the same date as this ride.

Something to think about as we progress and make decisions for 2009.

Think about our date for next year. I need to have our

event in annual LMB calendar by 10/29.

I suggest Sunday, Oct 11 2009.

Jeanne:Please add any other Rotarians you want on this list. pass around at meeting and get numbers . Then give to Pat Convey to format/copy/laminate for our event.
Peter: Could you provide John Rubio with a map on exactly where he is at the park and give it to him Monday, I sent him an email to come on Monday if his schedule will allow.
I will also need a map or written direction to get to Mrs. Starkey (at the High School), she will give to the interact students that are helping at this area.

Attached is the volunteer list that you can review on Monday. Note we need more volunteer for Loop riders and Jeanne Clum may volunteer United Way Staff.

Remind the Packet Assemblers to be at Tanger's Management Office (between Vitamin World/Totes), Tuesday at 2:00 p.m.

Remind Registration Committee Members that we will conduct training on Tuesday evening at Mt. Brighton from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Loop Training is set for Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. all trainers and loop riders must be at Mt. Brighton at 6:00 p.m.

Email Exchange with the Bike Doctor on May 28

Hi Randy, we are using this site as a workspace: http://www.webjam.com/howellrotarybikeevent I also sent you an invitation to join the site.

The ride will be loosely based on the old Firecracker 100 with 4 different 25 mile loops. We will also have at least one MTB loop and on short Family loop. We'll be encouraging longer distance riders to be on the road soon after sunrise, which will occur at 7:40 that morning. We will be serving lunch until 5 p.m. and would expect all riders to be in by then.

We'd love to have you aboard, even if it's for only part of the day. Let me know what you think.

Best, Jim

Hi Jim,
   Great to hear from you.
Yes, I still do support on rides and would love to help, but unfortunately have a prior commitment.
I may be able to shift it though. What time frame of the day would this be at?

Sincerely,

Randy S. Martin

-----Original Message-----
Hi Randy, I hope you are well. The Howell Rotary Club is organizing the 1st Annual Rotary Tour de Livingston. The date of the event will be October 11 and it will be based out of Mt. Brighton. All proceeds will benefit the Livingston County United Way.
Does the Bike Doc still provide service at these kinds of events? If so, what do we need to do to get you to our event?
I look forward to hearing from you.
Peace, Jim

Hi Sandy, will you be able to help with getting the route maps formatted and printed for the event?

We have been using Google Maps and they are posted on this page: http://www.webjam.com/howellrotarybikeevent/route

The routes should be finalized by the beginning of next week.

Thanks, Jim
