It is election time for Cherokee River Indian Community. Our last election was November 3rd 2007, when the following people were elected. Chairman: Gene Bagwell, Vice-Chairman: Tommy McCarty, Secretary: Jeri Camp, Treasurer: Cecil Brill, & Two Council Person for AL TN KY MS: Amy Byrd & Karen Cooper. We had a good voter turn out of our legal registered voters. All votes were returned to the attorney then transferred and open and counted in front of the people at open meeting. Attorney Thompson has again agreed to accept the ballot being sent to his office where they will be held until open and counted in open meeting. All votes will be held secret as they were last time. All ballots, letters and cards were removed from envelopes, separated, ID numbers were check on the envelope and ballot, (making sure each person only voted once) the ID #’s on the ballot were then cut away and discarded before they were ever viewed or the count began.
In this new election we will be voting for all offices including districts Council Members. This letter is a call for Nominations for the office of Tribal Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, & Council Members. (One person from each District except for AL which has enough members to have two Council Members.) Districts are shown below. You can only nominate a person for Council from the District you are living in. When you make your nominations please make a short statement why you think your candidate would be the best person for that office. A “Bio” of each nominee will be included with the election ballots. (Note: It should read something like this. I would like to Nominate Joe Smith for Tribal Chairman. Joe knows our people and has attended meetings and knows what it would take to make the Community much better. Joe is 42 and works at ATT and knows all about communications, the more info you include the more other people will know) A statement like this will let people know a little about the people you like and why they should vote for him or her. We only have council members for the Districts containing AZ, IL, VA & AL. We need more Council members from other Districts. We have members everywhere.
Each member of Cherokee River Indian Community (CRIC) age 16 and over may vote. This year we will try and save money by conducting most of the nominations by electronic and voice mail. We will contact as many members by phone, e-mail, facebook, etc as possible for the nominations. Saving the cost of a double mailing. Klieta Bagwell says you can reach me on her facebook page kbagwell1@gmail.com you can reach us at our e-mail address cherokeeriver@yahoo.com or call or fax us at 256 292-3584. We will accept nominations until February 15, 2010. On February 16 all nominations will be put on a ballot and mailed to each household. You will need to mark and return your ballot by US mail so that it will reach our attorney by March 15th 2010 for it to be counted. An announcement of the meeting date to open the ballots will be sent with your voting ballots.
We are accepting donations for our 10th annual Indian Festival coming up April 23-25 2010. Please mail your donation to our Treasurer Cecil Brill, 624 Raccoon Creek Rd, Jasper, AL 35504. See the flyer at www.webjam.com/hogohegeeindiancenter. You may also view this letter on facebook & webjam.
