Crear nombres para marcas desde hace unos años incorpora como uno de sus filtros la disponibilidad de URL's. Nada está disponible, por lo que encontrar el nombredemarca.com parece cada vez mas inalcanzable. Pero pareciera que no hay filtros para las direcciones que a veces terminan perjudicando seriamente a la marca.

En Trend Hunter levantaron un e-mail (que verificaron) sobre 8 nombres de marcas y sus correspondientes URL's.

1. Una compañía llamada "Who Represents" te permite encontrar el nombre del representante de una celebridad. La dirección es www.whorepresents.com (que se lee Whore Represents, o Representante de Putas en nuestro castizo).
2. Una base de conocimiento para programadores llamada "Experts Exchange". Los programadores no tienen por caso grandes conocimientos de branding y su dirección resulta www.expertsexchange.com (léase Expert Sex Change o Expertos en Cambio de Sexo).
3. Para la última selección en lapiceras de todo el mundo, visita "Pen Island". Puede encontrarse en www.penisland.net (sería Penis Land o  Penelandia).
4. Uno de los mejores recursos online para encontrar médicos en el barrio es "Therapist Finder", pero da para más de una lectura. www.therapistfinder.com (The Rapist Finder o el Buscador de Violadores).
5. Los italianos tienen fama de ardientes pero esta compañía de generacíon eléctrica se pasó: www.powergenitalia.com (léase Power Genitalia o Genitales Poderosos).
6. La libertad de IP te permite ir a cualquier lugar... www.ip_anywhere.com ( I Pee Anywhere o Yo Meo Donde Sea).
7. La Primera Iglesia Metodista de Cumming la empeora con su URL: www.cummingfirst.com (Cumming First o Acabando Primero).
8. Hay buenos diseñadores en "Speed of Art" y su trabajo sale como lo proponen: www.speedofart.com (Speed O' Fart o A Los Pedos)

Cuando crea que encontró el nombre de su marca, asegúrese de no arrepentirse después de haber comprado el nombre de dominio.

"This is a viral email going around.  I checked and it is absolutely true and shows the pitfalls of poor url planning! 

The following eight companies were fairly literal about transposing their brands to their url name. Unfortunately for them, in the English language, words quickly change meaning when the spaces are removed.  Here is the recap:

1. 1. A company named ‘Who Represents’ lets you find the name of the agent that represents celebrities. Maybe appropriately, the website is www.whorepresents.com
2.  A knowledge base for programmers is called ‘Experts Exchange.” Programmers, not being known for their branding prowess, chose this URL:

3. For the ultimate selection in pens from around the world, you need to visit ‘Pen Island’. It can be found at…

4. One of the best online resources for finding a therapist in your neighborhood is ‘Therapist Finder.’ Hopefully the therapists aren’t as scary as the name implies: www.therapistfinder.com
   
5. We all know the rumor about Italian guys and their specific genetic endowments, but this Italian power company takes it a little too far: www.powergenitalia.com
6. ’IP computer’ software gives you the freedom to go just about anywhere… www.ip_anywhere.com
7. I really really feel sorry for ‘The First Cumming Methodist Church.’ Not the greatest name to begin with, but this website makes it all the worse:  www.cummingfirst.com
   
8. There are some great designers at ‘Speed of Art’ and their work has nothing to do with either swimwear or Mexican food. www.speedofart.com

A final message to anyone starting their own company.  Think twice before you buy that URL. "
