tower42I learned a number of things last week. In no particular order, they are:

  • The concept of a "short-cut through the Barbican" is an oxymoron.
  • Things don't always work out as planned, no matter how well-prepared your 'system' is.
  • The deepest recesses of my lungs don't like being disturbed.
  • The Thameslink First Capital Connect service on a Sunday often travels slower than a geriatric walking pace.
  • Sometimes parking tickets are actually my own fault.
  • Rye whisky is not easily found in central London.

That is all.

If I was going to go looking for rye whisky (assuming you mean American rye whisky), first place I'd look would be either The Vintage House on Old Compton Street, or Gerry's, also on Old Compton Street. I'd expect them to carry at least rye variations of Jim Beam or Wild Turkey, but hopefully some of the more obscure stuff as well.

    Where'd you find it?

On the topic of rye whiskey, it seems aptly coincidental that a booze blog I infrequently read reviewed this in today's pile of updates:

    Sazerac Rye Whiskey

Ah well, I gave up looking pretty quickly.

I needed it as an ingredient for a cocktail. But the recipe called for four other spirits, plus fairly robust mixers, so I decided to just substitute bourbon instead in the assumption that it wouldn't make much of a discernible difference.
