How does the login button work?
The automatic log in works using Single Sign-On (SSO). SSO enables a user to enter their username and password just once but allows them to access multiple applications.
This means that when a Global employee logs into their computer at work, their username and password is also used to log them into the intranet site. Not only is this system much more convenient for Global employees, it is also very secure as their password is only ever stored by Global computers, rather than the computers that run the intranet.
Is that why the 'administrator and developer login' boxes won't let me log in using my Global account?
Yes, that's right. The intranet does not store your Global password as this is handled via SSO. That means if you try and type your login details in the boxes in the middle column, the system won't recognise them.
But I want to log in as someone else!
If you want to log in as someone else, you've got 2 options:
- Log out of your computer and log back in as someone else (the IT department will have to create this account for you). Then use the SSO login as normal.
- Use the username and password boxes in the middle column to bypass the SSO login. You can create a new account using the 'Join community' link BUT this will only work if you use a Global email address (like joe.bloggs@thisisglobal.com)
Ok, but how do I log in from outside the office - like at home?
To log in from home, you'll have to log in to Global's VPN first. Then you can use the SSO login as normal. If you need VPN access, please contact the IT department.
