Whey protein does have the highest absorption rate so your body will be able to break down and absorb the amino acids faster but protein doesn't give you energy or get your muscles pumped up for a workout so having a protein bar at lunch won't really have an affect on your late evening workouts. You should be trying to get a good source protein with every meal and trying to have 5-6 small meals throughout the day. If you do have a protein shake, have it after your workout. And remember, you DO NOT want your protein intake to exceed more than 25% of your daily calories and a protein bar is NOT a good substitute for a lunch time meal! You need to be eating real, whole foods so you can get the proper nutrition and energy you need to train hard and see lasting results.. especially if you are training later in the evenings.
