Nickdean98After our trouncing by Alexandra last week a chance to put our league woes behind us and build a cup run. Back at Auriol Park we face NPL B. Having drawn a fairly even game against NPL A earlier in the season we should have a good chance of progressing against their B team. We again start brightly and look the better of the two sides, this week we move to having three at the back to try to shore up what has become lately a rather leaky defence, with Aaron anchoring the middle and Matthew K filling in at left back. This seems to suit us well and we mount a number of attacks but cannot find the finish. after 15 minutes we concede a corner to a rare NPL attack. From the corner we fail to pick up on an obvious NPL short corner move and leave them completely unmarked for a shot on goal and they take their opportunity well. Moment later they gain a free kick just outside the box and fire a terrific shot in, Matthew rises to the challenge and palms the vicious shot over the bar. We retaliate up the right wing where William drifts a beautiful chipped cross in for Tyri which Tyri gets his head to but can only direct wide of the far post. So in at half time 1 - 0 down, after dominating the half. The second half story is much the same, we make all the play and three times Tyri finds himself one on one with just the keeper to beat , and each time he is equal to the task blocking our shots. On the second of these the ball comes out direct to Sy with an open goal in front of him only for the defender to challenge before he can get a shot away. Time ticks away and we just cannot find the breakthrough and our cup dreams fade with the final whistle. A much improved performance over last week but at the moment it seems we can't even buy a goal, however, we must keep our chins up as eventually our luck will turn and we'll get the result. We must concentrate on the league now and attempt to get ourselves out of the relegation zone. MOTM goes to William for his deft touches and inventive play going forward, well played Will.
