Big Talk Again

pop places01My passion in this field was to record. I was so impassioned with the sounds of the Giants, that I would wake up four to five times a night to either flip or change tapes. I didn't want to miss a thing. I have a digital recorder now so I can sleep through the night. I have quite a few interesting recordings and I had a hard time deciding what to put up. I hope I made good choices here.

Cookie and the Booger

In the audio below, I had set the microphone in the bedroom window and shut the door. It was about ten o'clock in the evening. I went to the other side of the house and was chatting on the computer. Cookie went to growling and before I could catch  her she was out the door.cookie I eventually got her back in the house, not knowing a single thing until I reviewed the night's recordings the next day. Apparently, we had a visitor at the window. At the beginning of this recording, you can hear the deep breathing. Next you hear a sound as if he bumped against the house. That I believe is what set Cookie off. As she set off out the door, you will hear a growl as it sets off around the house. She arrives at the window barking and then goes on around the house in pursuit. Cookie was about three years old at this time. She has gotten wiser in her older age and doesn't pay them any mind these days.

Siren Song

I was laying in bed one night with the recorder going when I heard this strange sound outside. As soon as the sound ended, I jumped out of bed to check the recorder to see if I had gotten it. I did. It was a completely bizarre sound, unlike  anything I had ever heard. It was so bizarre I sent it to the Center for Bio-accoustics in Corpus Christie to have it analyzed by experts. They sent me a letter stating, that they could not conclusively identify the sound. It had similarities to a red fox, the letter said. I could not find a red fox recording that came close. For now this sound is a total unknown.

The Fig Tree Parable

This next audio recording is one I usually would not share because it is not a clean recording. I had the mike outside the window while I was in voice chat with Dan Ricke. Had I known what was going on outside at the time, I would have ended our session. There is no way that I can remove our voices from the recording. If you will while listening to the audio, try to concentrate more on the sounds outside. You will hear what I believe to be Giant/Coyote interaction and a Bible lesson to boot.

Wood Knock

Recorded in Angelina county Texas, this is the classic wood knock sound.

The Howler

We began to hear the Howler around Christmas of 2001. We knew  that coyotes and wolves had to be stationary to howl but this creature was on the move and howling too. The sound frightened my daughter who was visiting that Christmas and she was terrified to go outside and help me put up the lights on the house. After New Years, Dan and Vicki came down and we set out to capture the sound of this Howler. We finally found him at a nearby creek and this is part of the recording we taped that night. During the recording of this audio, we continually had to re-adjust the direction of the microphone as the Howler moved around us in a circle, howling as he went.

Booger Hill

Booger Hill is the name of the place of where we live now. The header picture of the website is the actual picture of the driveway leading in to the house. Mark called it Booger Hill and the name just stuck. The audio below was recorded here. I had the microphone set up on the porch but it was still sensitive enough to capture the sounds of us sitting at the dining room table talking inside. The loud bang in the middle of the recording, comes from in the house when we got up and scooted our chairs across the pine floor. I wanted to include this audio because of the activity beyond the hill. It could all be coyotes but maybe not. Some of the louder and deeper howls lead me to  believe it could be Giant/Coyote interaction.

Chaos

Recorded at the old home place in Angelina county, Texas, this recording is named Chaos because it contains at least three known Giant sounds in one clip. In the beginning you hear cows bellowing but you will also hear the classic Giant's bird whistle. A little further into the recording you will hear a wood knock and then near the end you will hear the siren call possibly made by a Giant.

Strange Chant

We were researching in the Angelina River bottoms when this strange audio was recorded. We had the vehicle backed up to an inlet of flooded timber and the parabolic dish hanging out the window pointing behind us. The mosquitoes were relentless that night and we sought some refuge in the vehicle but we still had the windows down because it was so hot. We first heard something moving slowly and quietly through the water behind us. We got out several times to look with night vision and saw nothing. Then we began to hear this strange whispering chant sound. It seemed to be saying the same thing over and over. It totally creeped us out. We finally pulled out and turned around, blasting the area with the headlights. There appeared to be nothing there at all.

The Click

The click is a common sound Giants make in this area. We often hear it just as we step outside. I believe it is a signal to be cautious, humans are outside. We don't know how they make this sound, whether it is the gnashing of teeth, or if it comes from the throat or some other means. There is usually  only one click as you exit the house and often is very close.

The Event

Even though, everyone that was present at this event were experienced researchers, this night was one that we will never forget. We were a mile north of the Neches river in a heavily wooded area between two creeks. On either side of the area was clear cut and over grown pasture land. One of the female members of our group did a call. She was imitating a sort of bawling cow sound she had heard in her research area. There was no response for nearly 45 minutes. I know this because I had to flip the tape and it was a 90 minute. I was using a standard mike, unfortunately I did not possess a bionic ear at the time. We milled around the two vehicles quietly waiting. We finally heard the first distant howls. Within 45 seconds the howling and banshee screams were upon us coming from the north, west and south simultaneously. When they reached the bridge on the west not 50 feet from us, it was too much to stand and we sought the refuge of our vehicles, leaving most of our equipment outside. Even as we rolled up the windows, started our engines and turned the headlights on, the sounds outside continued to escalate. Then suddenly all became dead silent like the calm before the tornado. The couple in the other vehicle were deciding on who should step out and get their equipment. Cautiously, the female got out and retrieved the tripod . A back pack was left behind as we drove away. Going back the next day, we did not find the back pack.We have often wondered what would have happened if we had stood our ground.Honestly, I was  extremely rattled by the event as was all that were with me. Would I do it again, you bet, in a heartbeat.

I miss you so much and your fantastic cooking. The more we listen to them, the more we believe those sounds were authentic giant. If I would stay home, I might get them put up but I am planning on heading back to that location this weekend to see what else I might be able to record. If yall aint doing anything, yall are more than welcome to meet me there.

I have been so busy with everything. Right now we are on the last leg of the research season. I should have some great new sounds to add, enough to make a third page! Just be patient my friends and thanks so much for the kudos but we all know who the real stars are, our hairy neighbors, lol!

Yes, Laurie!!! Please DO ADD MORE SOUNDS! And thank you, and God Bless you for these. These are the best sounds I have ever heard on the net!!! So very clear, and so very well done. I've been hearing vocalizations near my home, and have searched and searched for a site with decent sounds to compare them to. Yours is THE BEST!!!

Laurie, excellent sounds I like how you documented the background of each-makes it that much more interesting. Thanks for sharing with us. I think the Event is my favorite.

I have totally enjoyed listening to the recordings that you have made. Thank you so much for taking the time and energy to not only acquire these clips, but also for sharing them with us all.
I was so blown away by the audio clip entitled "The Click". I had heard and read about this type of "clicking" being refered to in relation to the research of these peoples before and was wondering what it sounded like and whether this could be the same type of sounds as Dolphins and Whales use in echolocation, and darn if it doesn't sound nearly identical! I compared it to some different echolocation sounds recorded from Dolphins and a sound clip recorded in Lake Champlain. The web site that I used for the Lake Champlain comparison was: http://www. faunacommunications.com Towards the bottom of the page, hit the Lake Champlain link and listen to this sound. Within this clip, the same clicking can be heard as the clip you share. AWESOME. Now, I have some more in depth investigating to do on these sounds and the possible meaning of it all, since I myself had not heard this before. Again, Thank You so much.
