Some will say that I have the largest library of sounds in the country. I do have a small library of sounds actually and are any sounds of the Giant? I can not say for sure. I did not see what made these sounds. I did, however, study all known wildlife and the different sounds they make so that I would have a flat line base to compare. Giants rarely vocalize for long periods of time.
They are prudent and always cautious not to bring attention to themselves in any way. Needless to say, it is more common to hear one than it is to see one. Some of the audio on the next two pages were recorded during expeditions while the rest were recorded from my window as I slept. It was good fortune to live in an active area also. I want to apologize in advance for the poor quality of these recordings. My equipment included a standard Radio Shack cassette recorder and a Bionic Ear microphone. Some of the recordings were made with a standard mike, before the generous donation of the Bionic Ear from my good friend and associate Pat Rance. I felt blessed to have this equipment because what I was hearing or not hearing, I wanted to share with others.
One out of ten people who have ventured into the wilderness will hear the sounds of the Giant and have no clue that they were experiencing a phenomenal event.

This audio was the very first I had captured. I was using a standard mike and recorder so the audio is very low. This recording is my favorite because it was the beginning. Recorded in Angelina County, Texas in 2002, it sounds like a coyote with marked differences. The cadence is more of a call or a song. Unlike the usual coyote or wolf recordings, it seems to have a deliberate pattern.

Recorded in Angelina County, Texas, this audio represents the whoops you often hear the Giants make. Granted this audio could pan out to be barred owls. In comparing the sounds made on this audio, however, the vocal behavior is entirely different to that which is common to the area's barred owl population. In determining possible Giant sounds, I listen for a distinctly human-like vocal patterns. This audio may ride the fence but I am submitting it anyway for a very probable example of the Giant's whooping sounds.

We were researching an area about a mile north of the Neches river when this audio was captured. There were just two of us and we were in the vehicle with the mike sitting on top. We had woods close on both sides. There had never been a sighting in this area but here we often experienced sentinel type activity. Sentinel activity is when the Giants arrive in pairs and hide on either side of the researcher, simply watching and making the occasional small noise. Eye shine, breathing, and quick movement in the trees is the most common occurrence during sentinel activity. After a time, one will leave while the other remains to observe you until you leave their territory. In this audio there was typical sentinel activity with one Giant on each side. Harsh breath sounds have been heard often at this area. Because of the density and proximity of the wood-line, it was possible for the Giants to get very close to the vehicle without being seen.

This audio is the last window recording ever made at the Angelina county home. In fact, I was already moving to the new place. The dog you hear is the neighbor's dog down the road. He barks incessantly at night. This was one night he did not bark very long. He was used to coyotes so after the coyote response, he gave a quick yap but he was not prepared for what followed. I had been recording from the window at this house for four years. Even though, there were some large dogs in the neighborhood, none of them howled at night. Either this was a visiting or stray dog or it was a Giant. I will let you decide on just what this is.

The Dead End is a famous research area among my research group. There have many encounters at this hot spot. Located less than a mile from the Neches River, this location was a dead end road and heavily wooded on three sides. On Halloween night, 2004, we went to the Dead End and recorded this unique vocal. Although it sounds like the voice of a coyote, it's cadence is very unique and again has that same deliberate quality. The vocalization was distant, coming from the Neches river bottom.

Knocking is form of Giant communication. Generally certain trees are used for knocking trees based on the height and acoustical logistics. Trees are struck at the base with a large solid limb to create the resonate wood on wood sound that can be heard for long distances. Striking at the base sends the sound up the tree and out, sort of like an antenna system. You can verify a knocking tree by finding a tree that has consistent bark damage and indentations along one side of the base of the tree. You may even locate the knocking stick, but if you do, please have respect and do not touch it. The audio below was recorded in Angelina County, Texas. The first sound you hear is a nut falling on the roof of a house and rolling down. From a distance, this probably sounded like a wood knock to the Giant who responded to this. The last sound is either an echo or yet another response.

Another one of the window recordings, I call this one grunt-huff. This was recorded in the middle of the night and I believe it to be a true sound of the Giant. Some that have heard this believe it could actually be language although not anything like ours. This gruff and husky sound has also been captured before near the Neches river, roughly an hour away from the first location. The microphone was placed behind the vehicle some distance. We never heard the sound but the microphone did pick it up. I am including the window recording and the Neches river recording below. I wish there was more to the recordings than brief sounds but that is the usual way of the Texas Giants.

Recorded at the Angelina county home, these sounds occurred well after three in the morning when the whole neighborhood slept. At first I thought it was a panther but since then I have recorded the same sound in other places. Panthers are rare in these parts and this audio is more common than they are.
