Hi! I am David Holt. My plans for the future had been wrapped around preparation to become a trial attorney. I had enrolled in college with this goal in mind. Everybody knew where I was headed. Friends said I had charisma, a gift for speaking; I'd make a great trial attorney. But here I was gripped by an overwhelming sensation that God was somehow at work in my life. Pushing me. Pulling me. But toward what? Toward becoming a minister? Nonsense! How could this be happening to me? No way was I cut out to become a minister. Ministers were an entirely different breed of cat, weren't they? Godly. Patient. Gentle. Moderate of temperament. Never, or seldom experiencing or exhibiting a dark mood. Serious minded. And maybe, just maybe they were all, well, how should I put it, a little light on their feet in the masculinity arena. Not limp of wrist exactly, perhaps a little less masculine than the average guy. This shows you how little I knew at the time

I didn't know what toughness it takes to be a minister, how deep the commitment to gentleness and the other fruits of the Spirit has to be. But no matter what I thought at the time, no matter how hard I argued or how many excuses I thought to fling in God's direction to secure my own safety from such an unthinkable fate, there was no mistaking the fact that God was and is at work in my heart.
