Something about this fascinating man

Mauro Turcatti (aka Iron Mauro) is a public relations and marketing strategist. He currently serves as Senior Associate at Burson-Marsteller (WPP Group), the global public relations and public affairs firm. He is based in Milan, Italy. Prior to this he worked for Edelman, the largest independent global PR firm, Politiké (part of Chiara Associati), a political marketing boutique, and the Milan Chamber of Commerce.

Mauro is part of the Corporate & Crisis Management practice, dealing regularly with risk analysis, contingency planning, crisis preparedness and simulation, litigation communication, issue advertising and delivering media and front end trainings. He also works closely with Burson-Marsteller Digital, helping clients to embrace social media in their campaigns.

Paranoiac, tactless and politically uncorrect, he is an almost perfect modern portrait for Robert Musil's Man without Qualities. Except for he's shorter and getting bald, and has no sister. He's from beautiful Lake Como, a place most Americans discovered thanks to the free publicity it gets from vacationer George Clooney.

He accidentally owned a degree in political science at the Catholic University in Milan. Orrified by the idea of working at the age of 23, he decided to deepen his knowledge of communication-related disciplines and lager beers by completing a master course in European studies and global affairs at the Postgraduate School of Economics and International Relations (ASERI). He carried on grabbing another master diploma in political management and public affairs (courtesy of IED Comunicazione) before he surrended to the idea that life from then on would have been nothing but blood, toil, tears and sweat. He was wasting a scholarship around pubs in Oxford when he realized.

Mauro contributed to and/or managed some publishing stuff, most notably the 2005 edition of the Global Business Guide published by Etas (in Italian, see index) and Edelman's ambitious global white paper A Corporate Guide to the Global Blogosphere (available now in Japanese!). He gave speeches at few conferences, securing passionate insights as well as guaranteeing hilarious performances: our host reached the peak in 2007 with his appearance at the Change the Mankind, don't let the Climate Change event in Arenzano, when he broke his pants just before to get upon the stage (watch the full speech in Italian, forget about THAT scene).

He's also known as Iron Mauro due to his loyalty to British heavy metal monsters Iron Maiden. In fact, he has been playing drums in the tribute band The Clairvoyants for some years (his brother Paolo eventually still runs the business). Other interests include playing chess quite seriously and basketball (Mauro is a lifelong supporter of AP Cantù, his birth town's team).

This weblog is based on the webjam platform. Hosting and domaining have been provided by Artera. The big logo at the bottom of the main page is basically a free ads for this friend of mine. He truly deserves it: He didn't want me to pay for the service! God knows I tried. That was before I turned to Buxfer.

The spectacles I wear in the picture at the top of this page are not mine. They're Guaia's. I'd rather prefer huts. Check it out.

I must pay a tribute to Rohit Bhargava: his Social Media Bio has been really of inspiration for this page.

This blog is dedicated to the memory of Bala'zs Gyurcsa'nsky, a dear mate who left us to soon, although not without a sweet heritage. He wasn't granted the time to show the world that Hungarians don't only know how to live, but they are also damn good at business. Kösönöm.
