From its humble beginnings in the late 1970`s Carlisle Small Arms Club has developed into a facility, which it members
believe is one of the best shooting clubs in the North West.
Starting with only half a dozen members, and leasing a plot of land only large enough to allow two shooters to fire at the
same time, the club now has over 100 members on its books, owns a building which houses a 4 lane 25Mtr full bore range, a 20Mtr Airgun range, a large clubroom, canteen, full toilet facilities and of course a dedicated Fumble Zone, all facilities have been modified to allow access for disabled shooters.
The club has also improved the outdoor 25Mtr range facilities to enable 6 shooters to shoot simultaneously, and has
re- negotiated, thanks to a generous landlord, the lease to enable us to use land adjacent to the outside range for sporting
clay target shooting, and practical shotgun competitions for which it is one of the national venues.
Full bore rifle shooting is also available and for this the club applies to use the military ranges at Warcop and Battle Hill both within about a one hour drive from Carlisle.
The club has several options for membership including family, individual and junior and airgun. We try to cater for all shooting disciplines and members are able to practice and enter regular competitions in the following:- airgun, .22 gallery rifle (including benchrest .22), centrefire carbine, long barrel revolver, black powder and historic arms, practical shotgun, sporting clay target shooting and full bore rifle. Club airguns, shotguns and firearms are available free to members and guests, also ammunition can be supplied if required.
The club is home office approved and is affiliated to various national shooting associations including NRA ,NSRA, UKPSA, MLAGB, CPSA, and has amongst its members several qualified NRA RCOs. The NRA training scheme is in operation for people undergoing probationary membership, which lasts 6 months for newcomers.
