We'll add some fertiliser in Bohemia, prune those niggly little mistakes and maybe have a look at a couple of last year's dormant songs. All things will be bright and beautiful despite the tears in heaven. (No prizes for deciphering that.)

And as a teaser for the coming weeks - Abba think about some new music!

Rehearsals have been going well since moving to warmer winter quarters. Sopranos have serenaded, altos have reached new altitudes, tenors have been tenaciously tuneful and basses have bolstered those bottom notes. Folk songs are being finely tuned, rock is really rocking and the spirit of Dibley is spearheading our new musical advances.

And after all that alliteration, there's more music to come.

More progress on Bohemian Rhapsody (slowly) and Scarborough Fair (more quickly), a revision of All Things Bright (though it had dimmed a little!). As well as the usual supsects, there was Uncle Tom Cobbley and All! Great time, great fun , as usual.

We'll be missing the gardeners next week, so the rest will have to fill the space - and that's not a reference to Christmas over indulgence!

The choir sang for invited guests, Helen made them laugh and Roger found an excuse to regail everyone with a poem about 'binding twine'. We all had a glass of wine and festive food.

What a great end to the year and we look forward to a new year of singing starting after New Year.

Well done one and all. You were magnificent. Not that I didn't think you wouldn't be. I always knew that one day we would end Jingle Bells in the right key. The audience seemed very appreciative and it was a good sign, I thought, when they offered us food and drink. At least I don't think it was sympathy.

]]> Published c35e73de-254a-4c50-8fb7-d0be5eab264c Choir Given The Bird 14-Jul-2009 Tonight (well, last night really, but that doesn't work), at a select gathering of the choir (some enchanted evening?), the MD gave us the bird - rather, we had to be owls this week. It was only last week we were urged to be cats ('she swallowed the cat to catch the bird ......'). I think it was for the 'ooo's though. For once the men had some tune and the rest were 'ooo'ing.

We also sang 'Swing Low Sweet Chariot' but we didn't have all the pages so we couldn't finish it because we had no 'home' to go to!

Medicals: Good luck to Abbe and we hope Steve is soon hobbling about.

Don't forget to practice in the bath until Aug 17th.

Apparently, sometimes we have to be like cats meowing when singing. I wonder if that makes us sound more like a cats’ chorus or a cat on a hot tin roof? Anyway, I’m sure we’ll sound just purr-fect!!!

 

THE AGM took place, for those who weren’t there. We now have a committee of 7 (see contacts), the finances are healthy and we look forward to going from strength to strength. If you have anything you want to raise about the choir and its activities, just speak to one of the committee members.

]]> Published 878cbe5d-58aa-4a5e-955d-ae3b55c16277 The Sound o' Bagpipes 30-Jun-2009 Bob was in his element as we were singing in his native tongue and was able to provide translation services for the sassenachs.  Meanwhile, the ladies of the choir made a wonderful attempt to sound like bagpipes - in the best possible sense, of course! It seemed strange to be singing Auld Lang Syne in the middle of summer, though I supoose we did sing about April in December. There's nothing like being prepared.

There were some jaw dropping moments for the sopranos - to get the top notes you understand.

Friday - assemble at 6.45 at the church. Usual attire.

Our own guests thought the choir sang to of a very high standard, though they could be considered slightly biassed! On the other hand we got through a lot tonight and soon the tears will turn to joy in heaven as our angelic voices once more woo the people of Cropwell Bishop and environs. As long as our pauses are not as long as tea breaks!
