Several recent high profile news stories have highlighted the importance of careful usage of social networking networks such as Twitter. For example; Labour candidate Stuart MacLennan, who was sacked after posting a series of offensive comments, and Unite's joint General Secretary Derek Simpson who incensed British Airways by tweeting a running commentary of the negotiation proceedings. These instances highlight the importance of having a social media strategy to avoid such calamities.
Webjam helps clients to define their social media strategy through our Engagement Services, one of the three pillars of our service. A good way to dip a toe in the water is to utilise social media in internal communications via enterprise social networking; thus giving people at all levels of the organisation an opportunity to try out social media within a private environment. Additionally, we also work with many clients who are using social networks to build their brands with the public; as the feature below explains NME are using Webjam to expand their brand presence.

The NME Breakthrough site was created in response to NME’s desire to offer a bespoke platform for artists to upload music, embed video content from other social networking sites such as YouTube, and grow their own fan-bases through community engagement. NME are also using the site as a means of discovering new music talent and featuring these artists in the NME magazine, online at NME.COM and at NME shows.
NME Breakthrough’s community can listen to their favourite bands, become fans and most importantly rate their favourite songs and videos online. Using Webjam’s ratings system and voted completely by users, the best artists and tracks are featured on the site. The best artists and music receive coverage in the magazine and will perform at upcoming events and the ratings system also acts as an important medium for bands to listen to what their fans want. Live news feeds are also available all from one website, providing a complete platform for music fans. NME is an example of an organisation that understands the importance of engaging with their target audience through ongoing conversations and interactions. Using a focused and clever social media strategy allows NME to have a cost-effective tool for user engagement.
