The Factory team intend to complete a database migration this Thursday (11/02/2010) afternoon and therefore we are scheduling a short maintenance window (of approximately 15 minutes).  Once completed this migration will help resolve the issues of site slowness which we encountered yesterday evening GMT.

The exact time on Thursday is not set yet, and we will update this post tomorrow afternoon, once a migration test run is completed. We do not expect this test run to effect the Webjam platform's performance.

We wish a warm welcome to Debraj Dhar who joined the Webjam team last week. Debraj is part of the Factory team - the team who specify, create and test the Webjam product & platform. In order for you to get to know Debraj a little better, read about him his own words:

"I’m the new Web Testing and Quality Assurance Intern. My role involves working alongside Luke [Quality Assurance Lead] & the rest of the Factory. I cover a whole variety of testing practices to ensure the Webjam platform runs as smoothly as possible and ensure we identify any issues before they go live or catch them if they are live!

My background is in IT, having completed a degree in Computing and Information Systems at Goldsmiths College, University of London. I’ve worked in a technical roles as a Web Designer and also non-technical ones such as Research Executive (IT) since then.

We are currently working on a large project, which will re-work and redesign the CSS and Javascript of the platform. This has come about as a result of a number of bugs which have been identified (including the issues with the Rich text editor in Chrome). These issues are specifically affecting the front end, layout and design of the site - and in many instances is causing browser incompatibility. The idea behind this project is to ensure the platform runs more smoothly and works across various browsers.

We'll update you on the progress of this project. We suggest in the interim that you use the Firefox browser to access your networks on Webjam to ensure you can see the Rich text editor & the members tab.

On Thursday 4th February Webjam will be hosting a Webinar which will draw on our expertise in the field of social media. We aim to enlighten the viewer into how they can use the tools throughout the web to increase their online presence.  

The session will investigate the key players in the social media industry, including Facebook and Twitter. We will explain how your Webjam network can be used as a hub for all of your social media tools and will show how you can integrate the tools such as a Venda shop onto your network.
