Cracking the codes..

MRS, CASRO and ESOMAR (in partnership with CASRO) have all put out codes of practice for privacy and the collection of online data. Cloud 7 on Aug 31st will be our opportunity to discuss these. The exciting part is that the MRS are defining the whole of the internet as private and all those from whom you collect data as de facto respondents and yes you have to ask them first. Let battle commence!

CASRO want responses by Sept 2nd. the MRS by Sept 16th

Research conferences and all that

I had a curry last night with Steve August of Visions Live just visiting London after ESOMAR Athens on his way back Stateside. Which reminded me of the various conferences we have rattling around - wherepeople who have got involved in Cloud of Knowing are prominent by their presence!

Annelies Verhaeghe of Insites Consulting who will be bringing a paper to Cloud 4 was in action at ESOMAR. As were several from Brainjuicer.  I notice that both Anneliese and myself (and Christophe?) will be on the platform at the MRS Social Media conference the day after Cloud 4. So that will make interesting watching because I'm still not sure what is going to be discussed on the day!

And I thought I would remind you that submissions for the MRS 2011 conference need to be made to the MRS by the end of September. Here are the details.

Hope to see you next wednesday John G

John Kearon aka Chief Juicer (who is set to be a member of this group)  is off to ESOMAR I think at present in Chicago to present a paper with Herdmeister Mark Earls. He very kindly circulated a copy of the paper Me to We Research which most of you should already have. I have set up a scriptorium page on the webjam where documents of this kind can be stored. Scriptorium is where monks write their manuscripts. With a project name like Cloud of Knowing after the medieval classic it seems appropriate to borrow a litte medieval vocabulary.  And you will find the paper there.  John and Mark have identified 4 levels of We research of which content analytics or mass anthropology as they call it is the ground floor (or basement as I prefer!). Which is the natural turf of Cloud of Knowing. The other levels being mass prediction through crowdsourcing, mass ethnography and mass creation through co-creativity.

What with ESOMAR and half term coming up as well my plan is to set up the first face to face meet in the first week in November. Riva has offered her company training facilties in Camden but I will confirm date time and location nearer the time. My suggestion for the first meet is how the Purefold branded content project might be a useful analogy for how content analytics might develop within research.

Until then feel free to chip in and set up forum topics or to blog yourselves. The site is open to all interested parties so do put the word out.
