Research Presentation Evening

We had a fantastic evening on the 6th July !   Around 35 people packed in the Post 16 Centre at Sir Frank Markham Community School.  People from the Somali, Ghanaian and Bangladeshi community met with folks from Senior Voice and the Sikh temple.  Other people from the Primary Care Trust and the Council worked alongside students from Sir Frank Markham and some local churches.  What a great gathering of diverse Milton Keynes Citizens.

Bev and Kevin our Researchers outlined some of the key themes of the research.  We wanted to use the evening to ‘check out’ those themes to see if we had it about right.

Here are some photographs of the evening and you can see it was a really animated ‘buzzy’ evening.  Watch this space as we draw together our research into a final draft.

We had some great feedback from the Presentation Evening - you can read it by clicking onto this file......

Our Research

The aim of our research project is to gather stories and insights from individuals and groups living in Milton Keynes who face difficulties in getting their voice heard and who feel disengaged from social, community or civic life.

In a series of meetings and discussions with different groups around Milton Keynes, we are recording views, personal quotes and ideas for participation.  These insights will be fed back to local voluntary organisations, the council, and the wider public in a written report.  The report will help to move the citizen:mk project forward.

We are taking a broad approach to the subject of 'participation', which may cover volunteering, involvement in communty groups, consumer or political action, campaigning on local issues, civic decision-making, expression of citizens opionion (e.g. responding to a consultation or writing a letter to a councillor).  We're keen to hear your expreriences and views on these and other forms of involvment.  We're particularly interested to hear about any difficulties or barriers you faced in getting your opionions heard.
