What is Citizens:mk ?  

We are a new 'community organising' project in Milton Keynes called citizens:mk.  This will be a powerful alliance of active citizens and community leaders who will organise for positive change in our city.  Our members will include faith groups, schools, students, union branches, older people's groups, ethnic and resident groups.  We will all share a commitment to action, working together for the common good.  We will also be conducting community leadership and citizenship training for our membership.

Our Plan

We have already raised over £70,000 towards to cost of employing a full time specialist professional Organiser.   With a little more fund raising we hope to employ your Community Organiser by the end of September 2009.  

We have also run a Leadership and Citizenship training event in June where 25 community leaders in key organisations learnt the principles of community organising.  

Once we have our full time Organiser and our key community leaders trained we will start to grow our alliance of community organisations.   We will begin to listen to one other and discover what issues most effect our lives.  We will then begin to campaign to make changes in our community.   Here is our leaflet which will tell you more about our organisation. Strangers Into Citizens
