The Miracle of the New Birth

“Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3

Nicodemus was so impressed with the miracles Jesus had done that he wanted to find out more. He asked Jesus about miracles, and Jesus began to talk to him about births. It’s as if Jesus were saying, “Nicodemus, if you want to understand miracles, you’re going to have to become a miracle.”

Now Nicodemus was an intelligent man. He was a ruler of the Jews and a member of the Sanhedrin. Yet with all of his learning, he heard Jesus say to him, “Except you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God.” People simply can’t understand spiritual things until the Holy Spirit of God turns the light on in their souls.

Do you know someone who has a lot of education but no salvation? I challenge you to share this same Good News with him or her today.

Regeneration truly is a miracle wrought by God. It reminds me of the disciples' question after watching the rich young ruler walk away: "Who then can be saved?" Jesus said, "with man it is impossible"...but, thank God He didn't stop there leaving us hopeless..."but with God, all things are possible".

People ask me all the time how I paint the sun to look so bright. "It's easy" I say, "Surround it with something dark." John 3:8 is one of the best passages which paints the dismal backdrop of man's inability...however, this backdrop glorifies and makes beautiful God's ability!

What you trying to say Jeremy, that I have education but no salvation? What's up with that? ...JK brotha

Nicodemus, and apparently the Sanhedrin, acknowledge that Christ was doing His miracles through the power of God. This is a stark contrast from when the Pharisees attributed His work to Beelzebub (Matthew 12.24). Nicodemus' statement seemed to open the door for Jesus to explain to him this doctrine of the New Birth.

For some reason I thought of adoption. I heard a good definition of adoption: the legal act of God in which he confers on us the status of an adult son. Adoption gives the idea of man being born of God (regeneration) by faith (John 1.12-13).

I think Jesus was telling Nicodemus that it does not matter his physical status, member of Sanhedrin, he needed to be born of God. Everyone needs the to follow the same process.

I need to preach the Gospel of Christ so that all may hear and see of our relationship with God the Father through our Lord Jesus Christ.

    Good Stuff!
The Gospel is a simple message with profound results all powered by the working of the Spirit of God in an individuals life. Thank God that my intelligence has nothing to do with my salvation!
