David Boarder - conductor

DAVID BOARDER began piano lessons when he was six and the organ when he could reach the pedals. At Liverpool University he studied with Caleb Jarvis. He passed the examination for FRCO (Fellow of the Royal College of Organists) at 20 and the University’s B.Mus in performance studies.

After university David taught in Shrewsbury, played at St Mary’s Church and conducted Shrewsbury Choral Society, Chamber Singers and a new Youth Choir. After four years in Shrewsbury David moved to Durham where he taught the music elements in the Teacher Training Colleges associated with the university’s B Ed degree, tutored for the Open University and conducted local choirs and orchestras.

In 1977 David returned south to work with Hertfordshire Music Service where he was Area Manager for East Herts for 25 years. He conducts East Herts Youth Orchestra and two of the Music Centre’s adult groups, the A10 Orchestra and the 414 Choir.  He also conducts the Choral Societies in Royston and Bishop's Stortford. David is accompanist for the Priory Singers
which sings services at cathedrals throughout the country, he plays piano and harpsichord with the Ingram Ensemble and sings the occasional bass solo.

David’s house is full of instruments including a 2-manual harpsichord which he built from a Zuckerman kit, a new Petrov IV grand piano (the Bluthner is now in 'my hut' at Broxbourne School), a newly-restored 1821 Broadwood square piano, a Roland stage piano and a (nearly-finished) 68+ stop 3-manual organ built by Hugh Banton based on a 2-manual Bradford-computer-organ which David bought from the Choir School of Worcester Cathedral - and a very big tuba.

Choir18 brings together singers from several choirs in the Hertford area to perform a wide repertoire in some of Europe’s most amazing buildings.

The repertoire includes pieces by many of the major European composers and schools of the past 500 years and several from eastern Europe and South America.

Choir18 has a 'pool' of about 35 singers. We take on a 'gig' when we have a quorum of 14+ and a good balance within the parts. We are always looking for new singers to add to the 'pool'. Anyone interested? Please contact David Boarder for details.
