My Blog » Up all night digging out the reserve.....

Just a quickie tonight. I spent all night dreaming I was digging out the reserve and woke up exhausted - and a bit bored! 8 hours of digging is enough for anyone! Ugh. Hope I do something more interesting tonight!

The painting has taken a bit of a back seat the last couple of days as Olivier has done the final layer on the floor and I have stayed out of the way. Instead of - or rather, in addition to - the painting I have started a new project. I have been pondering the downstairs dining room windows: really they need replacing, but that shall be done when we start earning some money. So the question has been how to make them look pretty? the answer is to embark on my most ambitious curtain project yet. Austrian blinds, I have decided are the answer. These are very gathered feminine blinds that will cover the frames, and the idea is to make them the focal point, and not the window itself. I shall post pics of the fabrics I have chosen - they are quite daring, and if I succeed in not making a total dogs dinner of the whole business, then should be stunning. It could be a second career if the restaurant doesn't work out!

So the floor is done, and Dave has been to pick up the flooring from the shop in Perpi, and we shall attempt to lay it when the floor is properly dry, and it has lain flat - or as flat as possible - for a couple of days. It's going to be a difficult job.....we could have paid €1000 to have it done - but I think for that money, it's worth having a go, really.

Good news..big storm today and only one little drip!! Hooray. Getting there with the waterproofing. It's rewarding for Dave, he has spent a good few hours up on the roof this week gluing tiles on and his hands have been coated in goo all week.

We went to see J-P today, who is in charge of the electrics and kitchen fitting, to find out when he expects to finish the electrics, and they should be done by the end of next week. This is really good news as the presence of his electricians are not conducive to doing any decorating. He has finished building our circuit board - it is a work of art, truly impressive, and I wish I had taken the camera. I shall post some piccies tomorrow hopefully. I'm off to have a more restful night, hopefully! Night night.

I am sorry to have kept you waiting in anticipation as to what a 'chocholat junkyard' is.
Dave may well drool. I am salivating at the thought of it. It consists of a thin pastry base
coverered with a rich dark chocolate gnash, topped with creamy chocolate mouse with milk, dark and white chocolate sprinkles. I also detected some walnut and caramel pieces too. Mmmmmm.
Needless to say anyone requesting and egg white omelette would not be eating this.
Speaking of egg whites, it is not only the calories but the high cholesterol content that
these egg lovers are trying to avoid. When mixed with other ingredients such as mushrooms, tomatoes etc, they are not as bad as they sound.
Look at the advantage of being next to a table where someone ordered their egg white
whatever, you can then order an all yolk whatever.

Looking forward to seeing the Austrian blinds. Keep up the good work.

Thanks for that, Lynn - where did you have it? Ganache is the word you're looking for, there, it's chocolate and cream. Indeed, noone eating egg-white omelettes should be eating that! But it's no use, you can't make them sound nice.
