Race for Life is celebrating its 16th birthday this year. Race for Life began in 1994 as one event in London’s Battersea Park with 680 participants. Since then an incredible 4.7 million participants across the UK have raised over £327 million to fund Cancer Research UK’s life-saving work. Every year Cancer Research UK spends hundreds of millions of pounds on research into diagnosing, preventing and treating cancer. They are the biggest single independent funder of cancer research in Europe, supporting the work of around 4,800 scientists, doctors and nurses across the UK. In 2010, the aim is to get over 700,000 women raising £60 million to help bear cancer.
